Love help: So my boyfriend and I have been together for almost 3 years and he is constantly telling me he loves me. - Help.com

So my boyfriend and I have been together for almost 3 years and he is constantly telling me he loves me.

Why do I feel like he doesn’t though? He can be really manipulative at times and will call me names such as b*tch and mother *****r and such as that. He’s never really proved his love for me, never once has he gotten me a card for valentines day or our own anniversary. I’m not saying I want all that, but it’d be nice to at least get a card or something. He always promises me things, that he’ll stop drinking, smoking, or telling me he’ll do things when I know he wont. How can I make him stop promising me things when I know they won’t happen, or at least try to make them happen? I know I can’t change him, I would never want to. I just want to be proved wrong, that he really does love me, and wants a future together. I want to stop worrying about our relationship failing in the end. Please help?

If he’s not behaving as though he cares about you now, I don’t think he ever will. Relationship don’t get easier with time, they get harder, so if he’s treating you badly or neglecting you now, I don’t think he’s gonna stop soon. Sorry to tell you this. I know it must be hard. But I had a relationship a lot like that, and I’m still hurting from it. I don’t want to see you have to go through the same thing.

He should not be talking to you like that regardless of how he truely feels. You need to let him know he is hurting you and if he loves you then he will change

just got out of a 3 year relationship.. we both told each other that we loved the other.. but in the end.. she cheated on me 3 times, maxed out three credit cards and had an overdrawn bank account. i still love her to this day.. just not the person she has become.. rather i loved what she was not who she is. we can hang on to people and hope that they resort back to the behavior that attracted us to them in the first place. you just have to ask yourself when push comes to shove will he be there for you or will he take off..

I think that actions speak louder than words. If he is not showing you he loves you it doesnt matter how many times he says it.

I think that you actually have some pretty good instincts… even if it hurts to listen to them. You’re instincts seem to be telling you that they’re very worried that you can never be truly happy with this guy who is always telling you one thing but doing another. Maybe they are telling you this now because the relationship is at a point where you either need to get closer or turn and go your own ways. Listen to yourself… you have all the answers inside of you, even if they’re hard to hear sometimes.

Sorry kiddo, but if he’s calling you a ***** and a motherf****er and making promises he’s not keeping after 3 years, he doesn’t love you. He’s a selfish bastard who’s content to keep stringing you along as long as you’ll put up with up. You need to leave him and find someone better.
