life help: How does someone with Asperger’s get a girlfriend. - Help.com

How does someone with Asperger’s get a girlfriend.

I have had mild Asperger’s all my life and it has been terrible. I’m a great guy, but I just can’t master social skills. Are there any resources to help learn “the art of small talk”?

I’m sure there are resources online, but just observe how others interact. Small talk is easy once you get used to it… just general “How are you?”, make comments about the weather… “Nice day, isn’t it?”, asking if they had a nice weekend, etc. Mostly I think it takes practice to just get comfortable, and then you can just make simple comments based on whatever situation you are in.

It gets so frustrating. I want to know how you deal with it.

well, ive only just been diagnosed with it. its irritating when people say “oh you don’t have it” when I do and it annoys me when they say it because but its affected my life a lot and its like they don’t understand.

Im being invited to a support group for others with the same condition as me. I do get lonely a lot, especially as my siblings have friends and go to parties loads and im stuck at home with no one being a loner.

My three year old has aspergers and I often wonder what his life will be like when he is older. All I can say is be honest with people if they are truely your friend they will care for you no matter what.
