Can’t really coment on the american gangster aspiration but rockster yes

Learn an instrument or singing, join a band, write material and pratice. Play local gigs getting contacts from venues and getting your name around. Start spreading your wings outside of the local area. Try and get your music played on the radio by approaching the radio station. Send demos off to big and small companies. Try and get noticed in battle of the bands/talent compitions. With the contacts you obtain see if there is any talent scouts or that kind of thing trying to find new talent.

Unfortunately you will probably need to get a part time job to cover some of the expense in practicing and travelling.

ha, i love the american gangster thing.
for real though, if you want to be a gangster, you gotta look tough, and be tough, and find a gang to join locally. they normally have initiations, in which you or someone else will probably be put through hell. if you have no local gangs, move to l.a. i dont recommend this gangster thing. movies definetly glamourize gangs, and often times they wont let you leave if you want to…theyll probably beat the **** out of you or kill you. unless its not a very hardcore gang.

the rock star thing is a much better path. you gotta learn the instrement (guitar, drums, singing, whatever), and of course, develop an attitude. youll need a band, too. once at that point, write some songs, rent some studio time, then send in demos to radio stations and agents. then go from there, depending on the reaction. of course, play local venues and try to get discovered.

Get really good at music. Find people better than you to form a band. Get into good shape and dress well. Practice all the time. Record demos, play out at clubs as much as possible, meet other good bands and team up to build a scene, continually send demos to agents/labels/radio/clubs/press, build a great website, blog a ton being cool to people you meet, post a limited number of your best music online (too much can confuse people), make an interesting you-tube video and most importantly - have talent.

Why be a gangster? Typically people from bad situations join gangs. It is not glorious but very rough.
