Do you think John McCain is too old to be president?
Why or why not?

haha. do you think he is capable of running the country though? Turtlish looks aside, of course. :)
age shouldnt be a factor in this. None worried if george washington or benjamin franklin were “young” enough to do the things they did, and yet they were some of the people who shaped our country. If McCain has the drive and motivation to do this, then he will. If he dies or something because of his age, then he wont have had very much impact anyway. I hate being discriminated against because of my age, and that is just my input on that matter.

I agree with you, I have just heard so many people say he was too old. I am not going to vote for him, but if he wins I would not be concerned about his age.
Age discrimination aside … presidency?…. I hope not.
I don’t think so considering his experience. I’ve seen younger candidates I wouldn’t give a plug nickel for.
I am hoping for a new, fresh face in the White House. Tired of the way our current “leader,” (if you can call him that) has been running the show in this country. Don’t want more of the same!

Didn’t you know, he’s a commander guy!? The decider! Haha.
I agree… this country’s politics are getting old and I am starting to feel a little jaded. :P
lol! Commander …… lmao!
Yeah, I agree. Things are getting stale in the selfish old dude’s club. Would be nice to get someone in there with a solid resumé who has some brains for a change! :)

Better start with US Congress then. Presidents are many times (I didn’t say always)the scapegoat for what Lawmakers have done and are doing or not doing. Also, check up on your candidates before you vote. Shakey
lol! I have :-)
……and Mr. McCain sure doesn’t look like a good deal to me. Dudes out for himself and his buds. Congress hardly has a say so when it comes to passing bills. The current “king” and his big business buddies in the big top decide here.

What! How old are you? Have you ever studied US History or Government?
I wouldn’t really mind McCain being Prez, but I don’t like the ideas he has about Iraq. I think that it is all about money and profit and we are just babysitting amid a civil war. Except our men and women are getting killed. Aside from that, I think he is a very capable, very knowledgeable and very honorable man.
Whoa! Mr. Shakey you sure aren’t winning any hearts through patronization and put downs. You really won’t convince ME to vote otherwise. I believe Mr. Bush AND his administration are largely responsible for the mess our country is in ….and yes I have taken courses in US History and Government.

It is a tough situation. It’s like darned if you do, and darned if you don’t.
It would have been nice if we could have went in there, cleaned house and came home, but that wouldn’t have worked either. I’ll be glad when we are able to leave.

Yes, it would have been nice if we had gotten all those hugs and flowers from the Iraqi people that the Bush admin. was banking on. I think we have been very arrogant about this situation over there since day 1. I know what you mean though, we are kinda screwed either way at this point.

LOL, why do you assume that I would try to change your vote. And I wasn’t putting you down. I was addressing you according to your logic. Sorry if you took offense, none intended. Now can you tell me again how Congress hardly has a say so when it comes to passing bills?
At least he would be to old for a second term.

That’s entirely possible, unfortunately.

You have to admit though, Bush has been bordering on abuse of power with all his veto’s.
That depends on who his vice president is;)
Oops, sorry clashcity, didn’t mean to put your quote in there.
Shakeybritches wrote:
Wow how many times has he done that?
To date, there have been 9. There will surely be plenty more, the closer he gets to being out of office. But what makes it an abuse of power, to me, is that they are all heavily influenced by his party’s beliefs (i.e. stem cell research, CHIP, war-related issues).
SoulRising wrote:

So true… I am still wondering who he will choose. I haven’t heard anything lately.

Disregard the last entry where it says Bush 0.
I think McCain is a good man. Do you think he is too old?
SoulRising wrote:

No, I have just heard a lot of people (including my mom who is no spring chicken herself) say that they don’t want him in office because he is too old, has old-world views, might not live through his presidency, etc. I think it’s ageist; I think he is a good man all things considered. I would rather have a democrat, but I think Obama is i>too /i> liberal. He borders on being a total pacifist.
Obama is charming, but for all the times I have listened to him I still don’t know where he stands on the issues.

Yes, I agree with you there. A little bit wishy-washy. That Rev. Wright needs to shut his pie-hole, too. He could ruin this for Obama.

Ok, what’s your point?
It’s a shame Rev. Wright has anything to do with it.
SoulRising wrote:

Yes, it really is a shame, but people are going to form opinions of him based on this, unfortunately. I don’t really care about it, personally, but when I was watching the news conference with Rev. Wright, I kept thinking, “Why is he doing this? Why isn’t Obama dragging him off the stage?” It is most unfortunate.
Obama seems to have his loyalties.
SoulRising wrote:

Yeah, I don’t trust any politician. It’s choosing the lesser of the evils, really.
Please, regardless of who ya’ll vote for, know the facts! Try not to take sound bites or political “pundits’” words for fact. Look stuff up, if you vote your heart, make sure you use your head. It’s my place to vote for my candidate, not to make you or anyone else vote for anyone! If you feel strongly about one candidate or another, see what their voting records are on the issues that matter to you. Don’t fall into this trap so many people have, they hear a few words, or they go with what feel is the majority. Ya’ll have a good day, and remember…..Don’t Mess With Texas!…lol Take Care, Shakey
Fair enough Shakey.
And I love Texas. In particular San Antonio.
I was stationed in San Antonio for 10 weeks back in 1979. I loved it, got to see Yes and Jethro Tull in concert. Also got to see the Alamo. Pretty cool place. I loved that riverwalk, that was awesome.

Did you eat lunch at Dick’s Last Resort? That place is a trip! I dunno if it’s still there, though. :)
It’s been so long ago, I don’t remember….lol

That’s what I get for not reading closely. 1979… i thought for some reason you were there 10 weeks ago! :P

Those were some of the best days of my youth. Yeah, 1979, that was like right after the alamo…..lol
Honestly doesn’t make a difference.
A good and honest person couldn’t get elected.
The system just doesn’t work that way.
Besides .. with the current diebold fiasco .. you’re vote doesn’t matter.

We need hand-counted paper ballots.
Sometimes people (including myself) parrot what they have heard others say without investigating for themselves to see if certain claims are true. When you have discussions and there are no facts, only pundits’ claims, then we should make sure what we are talking about is true and accurate. I am simply saying, we should all have our facts straight if we are going to have a reasonable conversation about anything, especially politics.
If you took offense to my tone, ok, I can understand, but if you want to discuss something seriously, I just ask for enough consideration for you or anyone else to check your facts before jumping in. Thanks, hope that clears it up….some…

I have only briefly pored over the information as I must get to work.
I would like to know, how many were civilian deaths related to US and Allied Forces?
How many were results of insurgent attacks?
How many were Iraqi military and police?
I am looking that up myself also.
Thanks Shakey, hope to see ya’ tomorrow.

Yes I have. I know all about Diebold. Not saying they are the best option either. You are really full of yourself. Talk about lecturing and talking down to people.
Well, Anonymous, you say that hand-counted paper ballots are “not feasible,” (why, I wonder?) and that Diebold is not the best option. What do you suggest then?
I don’t think senile people should be president. Why would we want an old person for president? They are grumpy and stubborn a lot of the time.
florie wrote:

I think votes should still be counted by machines. Just not machines that are so vulnerable to viruses and hacks. It can be done. I wouldn’t trust my vote to be counted by a human.

We need something in place for the upcoming presidential election. That won’t be new machines. The votes on paper ballots cannot be changed by a flip of a switch or the insertion of a program like our current machines allow. And hand-counting means that many eyes will be watching. That’s why I think we need hand-counted paper ballots.
He is not too old, but he is not mentally agile. He is stuck in about the year 1968, I would guess.

wow, a little accidental “t” can definitely change the meaning of that entire reply! :)
Of course .. the president has no pull or control over anyone or anything that happens in congress .. or in the judicial branch. That’d just be silly.
