Eriley, first contact your family members for some financial help. Move in with someone if that’s the only option. Are you getting child support for your two children? If not, you need to get this started right away. Don’t worry about how the kids’ father reacts–put emotions aside and don’t shortchange your kids! Contact your local legal aid society for help. Now, about jobs: make it a goal to put in at least 20 applications a day! Go to the “big box” stores, to fast food restaurants–anything offering pay for honest work. If you are not a member of a church, go to your closest Catholic or Episcopal Church and talk to a priest about financial aid–and getting hooked up with some potential employers. I am familiar with these churches, and that’s why I recommend them. Some of the other churches don’t help people but put everything into buildings. See if your county or state provides any child care assistance. Talk to your landlord and explain the situation. Try to borrow at least one month’s rent from your family members. Do NOT become discouraged, and do NOT give up! ALSO, see if you can collect unemployment compensation as a result of being laid off! We’ll keep you in our thoughts and prayers!
