My computer is messed up.

Spyware or adware or malware. i don’t know the difference. I’m technologically challanged. :(
Well, my desktop is completely blank. It was a beotch to get on IE. Oh, my task manager has been ‘disabled by administator’ when i tried to use ctrl + alt + delete. I have no idea what to do. I don’t have money to go to one of those repair places or something. What can i do?!

HELPPP.

Well it sounds like you’ve managed to get a trojon virus somehow. I would suggest attempting to install some anti-virus that sweeps your harddrive before windows boots. Go download AVG Free 8.0 from –> http://free.grisoft.com/ww.download?p… If you can manage to install this software set it up to do a scan before the next boot (restart).

If this doesn’t work I would suggest finding a friend with some knowledge on the subject to help you through some more advanced approaches (e.g. removing harddrive and scanning in another computer, booting linux onto the computer to virus scan, etc…)

I hope this helps.

Ah. That sounds bad :(
My brother is good with computers, I’ll ask him, but he lives in Orlando.

Thank you!

Yeah, it is no fun to be in this situation. At this point it does take a bit more technical knowledge to recover. I forgot to ask, are you running windows XP, Vista, Mac OSX, Linux? If you are running Vista it could have something to do with the service pack 1 that was recently released. Either way, if you can’t install programs on your computer you are going to need to find an alternative path to completing a virus scan.

One approach is to re-install your entire computer but you would lose all of the files currently on the computer(unless you are able to burn a cd or us a flash drive). Depending on your set-up this could lead to problems of finding the proper drivers to get your computer running with Windows XP or Vista.

Like I suggested before I would seek out more knowledgeable help that is near by or available via the phone.

Looks really messed up!

Installing anti-virus at this moment is not a good idea, as all these harmful objects will corrupt your anti virus.

while booting press F8 and login in safe mode.

Go to Run > type msconfig > startup and deselect unwanted programs from booting.

if situation improves, try to uninstall unwanted programs then install avg anti virus (find the link previous reply ) and check the whole system.

I have windows XP. Yeah, i think i’ll just let my brother fix it somehow. He’s really good with computers. He said i’d lose everything on my computer though, all the files, music, pictures, ect :/.

I tried to do a scan with ad-aware before, but i have no idea where that went, soo. i’ll try what hasan said.

thank youuu =)

The extent to which this person’s computer has been compromised reminds me of a trojan I helped another friend with a week or so ago. Perhaps my terminology is off but that really isn’t the point of this all. What makes you ask such an question?

Oh, i found the ad-aware thing, and it removed some stuff. it said that there’s one thing that is unable to be removed and the recommended action is to remove it after i restarted the computer. it’s a ‘DataMiner’. Does anyone know what TAI means?

You guys are helping me a lot, thank you!

You should go to http://download.com and get these programs. AD-Aware, Spybot search and destroy, CCleaner and and if you dont have an Antivirus program you can use Avast or AVG, and for your firewall a good program is Zone Alarm. Install these programs and run them regulary. This will keep your system clean and running properly. These programs are free and Download.com is a part of CNET (the site that your posting on right now). Hope this helps :-)

Excellent advice The Clue. I would also you go to the following website www.bitdefender.com/scan8/ie.html this is a free virus scanner and it removes all viruses on your computer, I also reccomend running the programs that The Clue has said in safe mode.
