Question for climbers and/or Jurassic Park fans.

Okay in the second Jurassic Park film, after having run away from an onslaught of dinosaurs the following line is said by the hunter (Roland):

“Roland Tembo: Remember that chap about twenty years ago? I forget his name. Climbed Everest without any oxygen, came down nearly dead. When they asked him, they said why did you go up there to die? He said I didn’t, I went up there to live. ”

Is this a true story? If so, does anyone know who the climber was?

I know it’s a quite a different topic than the usual depression/relationship topics I help with here on help.com, but this has been bothering me lol.

Think that’s what Roland is refering to? I didn’t notice that story including that quote, and i’d think that quote has become pretty famous, or at least famous enough to be mentioned wit the guys name-_-

The quote is good, but that movie was retarded.

Kinda cool how the dinosaurs were in San Diego, my town though.

Jurassic Park is the only good film of the series. Lost World blew, and I didn’t even bother with III.

Reinhold Messner (born September 17, 1944) is an Italian mountaineer and explorer from South Tyrol, often cited as the greatest mountain climber of all time. He is renowned for making the first solo ascents of Mount Everest without supplemental oxygen and for being the first climber to ascend all fourteen “eight-thousanders” (peaks over 8,000 metres above sea level).
