Year help: My mother recently ran out of Xanax, for which she has a prescription. - Help.com

My mother recently ran out of Xanax, for which she has a prescription.

But her doctor recently dropped her, so she couldn’t get any more after she ran out. She started going through withdrawals and I wasn’t going to leave her at the house while I went to work, so I ended up calling an ambulance for her that morning. She got out of the hospital at around midnight and she seemed much better. But in the past day, she’s been going on about random things that make no sense. She’s been making up words and starting nonsensical stories out of no where. It’s starting to scare me. I can deal with a lot of stuff, but I’m beginning to think she’s gone crazy. And I just can’t seem to deal with that. I have to wake up for work in about 3 and half hours, yet I can’t sleep because this is bothering me so much. I don’t know what to do. I tried talking to her, but she just kept on with her stories. I don’t know what happened in the hospital. I know she hasn’t taken her medication in a long time, and I don’t think she’s eating in days. She might not have drank anything for days either. She’s not a common pill head - she’s been on Xanax with a prescription for around 18 years now. I just want to know what to do to help her and if this has anything to do with dropping Xanax so suddenly.

Hmmm that sounds pretty serious. Can you take her to the dovtors again and find out if she needs to be put back on the xanax if being off it is effecting her this much?

Well, I’m pretty certain that she doesn’t need to be off it in the first place. The reason her doctor dropped her apparently was because we’re supposed to be getting evicted, and that was recent, so she hasn’t had time to find another doctor.

I don’t know what the emergency room could do if anything.

I don’t mean the emergency room just a GP but if she hasn’t had time to find a new one then thats understandable. As soon as she can get the time to see a new one though make sure she does because she clearly needs to be on this medicine.

I’m hoping she has the clarity to do that. I’m only 20 and I’ve never done anything like finding a GP, so I wouldn’t really know where to start if she can’t do it herself.

I actually just found out that she received a letter from her last doctor stating that he will continue to be her emergency care provider for 30 more days, so that means that I can make sure she gets in contact tomorrow after I get off work to get another prescription. So hopefully, after she gets back on her medication, she’ll put all this silly behavior behind her and go back to her normal self.

Thank you. Hopefully I won’t have to come back to this site for the same reason.

Do you think it’s possible that she suddenly developed it because of the sudden lack of Xanax?

Holy crap, I think your right. I need to get in touch with a doctor or something. After reading up on it, I’d have to say that she’s definitely showing a lot of symptoms related to Alzheimer’s.
