Insurance help: I think my tooth might have cracked. - Help.com

I think my tooth might have cracked.

It’s the first molar on the right bottom side. This morning I thought I had a piece of popcorn stuck in my teeth and I picked at the spot. Something came off, but when I looked at it, it was hard and yellowed and definitely not popcorn. It was at the gumline, on the back of the tooth.

I’m wondering if this is a dental emergency. I don’t have insurance or, come to think of it, income.

If this is a dental emergency, does anyone know of any dental clinics in the New York area where they provide services on a sliding scale?

If this is not a dental emergency, how can I best handle this until I find a dentist who can provide low-cost dental care? Is it possible I’m going to need periodontal surgery, considering this crack or break or whatever is right at the gum? I will have insurance in June — which is a while to wait, but if surgery could wait until then, it would be fantastic.

I stupidly did not save the piece of my tooth that came off, but it was tiny.

Also, is there any possibility that this was NOT a piece of my tooth? I mean, I can feel a hole or at least a blank space in there, but the tooth doesn’t hurt or anything. There is a bit of bleeding on the gum. But could it have been something else?

tell me about it. am sitting here with a crack in my top right..
my advice is get it sorted straight away, I cracked one in half but it didn’t casue me pain so I left it a month or two…one day I just woke up in agony…you can by stuff with benzocane or novocane to sooth the pain but you definitely need a dentist by the sound of it. Mine happened just like you said, feels like something stuck then afterwards you notice a gap..
might be expensive but paying for it to get sorted will definitely be worth it…
really really hurts alot if you leave it…alot!
hope that helps
