Does anyone know what qualifies as child abandonment?

? I have a three year old daughter, her father and i split up quite a while ago and he has seen her once in the last 6 months and now has not tried contacting her in over 6 weeks, we live in the same town, he knows how to get ahold of me to talk to her, and i havent heard anything, im wondering if this would qualify as child abandonment on his part, he does pay child support, but is behind and the payments are shorter than they are suppose to be, but still he has not tried to have anything to do with her, i honestly do not care that he isnt in her life, but im wondering if this could make it that he no longer has any rights to her, if anyone knows anything about this subject please let me know. THANKS!!!

im not sure but i would ring up DOCS. here in australia that is like the child services thing, which my familys all too familiar with. you could ring your USA child services place, wherever that is, or whatever they call it there, and ask them.

my sister is going through the exact same thing with her daughter.. i am almost positive that after 6 months of absolutely NO CONTACT.. you can actually go to court and have all visitation and such removed from him.. as this constitutes emotional abuse to the child. but.. it has to be a consecutive 6 month period.
