My dad is in the same situation. we have to be out of our house by monday we have no food, no car and no house. No income.
Go to your local command labor and get some temp work. You can be a greeter at Walmart so dont say that there is no jobs. No one is going to give you money and if your 60 years old you know this to be true. Hope this helps :-)
how about vocational rehab or a state program to help you find a job…
Being 60 is very hard finding a job these days there are too many younger ones unemployed. AND you can’t just go to your local WalMart or any other store anymore you have to do it all online and hopefully you get a call. I am in the same position been unemployed for 2 1/2 years now and have hit every **** support system online, worked with the local gov’t job sites to find work and I have had ONE yes ONE interview in all those years. I have worked all my life and have a professional background. Tomorrow I turn 60 and my unemployment payments have ran out now or will next week and I can’t collect pension for another 2 years. I have exhausted every penny I have saved for my retirement. Where do I go from here? Who the hell knows? who the hell cares?
HOW ARE YOU DOING?
Where do you live? I understand your frustration. I am 66 and I know if I lost my current low paying job, I would be struggling to make it and probably not find another job.
Ha! I turned 60 last September. I have been self-employed for 35 years, had been incorporated for 25 years, in home remodeling. I bought my house in 2006 and promptly found hidden defects in the house done by incompetent contractors & a diy homeowner who died just before closing. I spent all I had to keep the building from collapsing, 3 businesses that I worked with for supplies & job leads folded in 2006-2007, my widowed mother, who lives 100 miles away, needed 5 surgeries from October 2008 to November 2009, and with the housing collapse, my business dried up. Now I have been in foreclosure since October, 2010. I have not worked since December, 2010.
If I make it to age 62, I will be eligible for $648/ month from SSI.
It’s a good thing I never married, nor have any dependents, or I would really be depressed !
I am driving a 12 year old minivan with 316,000 miles on it. I have not had health insurance for 7 years and have terrible arthritis from years of construction work.
To mitigate death expenses, I have donated my impending remains to science and am filing a living will with a DNR clause.
I know there are others who have it worse, so I keep it all in perspective.
I’ve had a good run, kept my expectations modest, and have found out who my true friends really are. All 3 of them.
I am unable to collect EI, am almost unemployed with less than 20 hous a month of work. Ongoing for months now, living in overdraft and credit cards. I am hoping to start my own small business, sewing from my home. I learned to sew but need a refresher course on the new machine. For others maybe you have a skill or talent and who knows you may even be able to hire someone too. Hopefully the employment mess can get turned around. Best of luck. closing in on 60
I know the feeling, in 9 weeks i will be out of unemployment benefits and i will be homeless, don’t have anyone, and don’t know what to do, any suggestions!
It just kills me the posts about those folks over 60 and facing homelessness and hunger, to be a greater at wallmart? So that’s all there is? I don’t even believe in Wallmart! A company that literally has taken so much business away from others! Being a greeter will hardly pay your rent!..it will buy food and gas and your phone and a little extra, if you’re lucky there are no health benefits…this is one of the only countries in the world that doesn’t take care of seniors properly! It’s assumed that everyone at 50-60 has some fat retirement package to look forward to, which is far from the truth….The part of all this that i find disgusting is that if you’re of childbearing age and keep breeding you can get benefits for years! I see this in California at social services…having so many babies they can’t afford so they can continue to get benefits! They stay pregnant on purpose! We are already sadly overpopulated…the government does nothing about this! The baby machines qualify for everything, but a 60 yr old with health problems gets absolutely nothing in this country! ….It’s sick!
