girl help: would you tell? - Help.com

would you tell?

so Samantha, this girl i work with wanted monday night off. but one would trade with her. so she went to work, then took her lunch hour, punched back in so she was on the clock, and left, and went to the movies, on the clock, then the next day she lied to our supervioser and said she forgot to punch out at the end of the night.

i hate that shes getting paid for work she didnt do. and i think she is disrespecting our boss(who i adore) by doing this, and i feel like by not speaking up, im only helping her lie, and disrespect our boss.

should i speak up?

I went through something kind of like that. My boss wasn’t doing her job. I was. She sat and did her family geneology and stuff like that a lot of the time. I finally had to tell her boss. She was making a lot more money than me, and, I just couldn’t take it anymore. She was put on probation for a while, and, eventually fired. I felt horrible, but, tried to remind myself that I’m not the one that wasn’t doing my job. She could have started working more, but, she didn’t. It was her fault, not mine that she got fired. I know it would be hard for you, but, I think you need to talk to your boss. You really like your boss, so, I’m sure they would appreciate you letting them know what’s going on. It probably won’t really surprise them either.

I would speak to your friend first. I would tell them that I am not willing to lie for them. If they do it again, I will report it. This gives your friend a chance to correct their behavior.
