Another math problem I need help with!

Ok. So, I know how to do everything, but I need to get a system first. A system is this:

y = whatev
y = whatev

But right now I only have one y = whatev. See, here:

I need to change x^2 + 2y =5 into a y = equation. Help!

Put everything except 2y on one side and divide both sides by two.

Just in case bagway wasn’t helpful:

x^2+2y=5 Subtract x^2 from both sides to isolate the “y” tems
2y=5-x^2 Divide both sides by 2
y=(5-x^2)/2

yes. make 2y the subject and divide everything by 2

You don’t need two y-isolated equations to get a system.

Say you have y=x-2 and x^2+2y=5

You can multiply the first equation on both sides by 2:

2y=2x-4

Then subtract the second equation:

2y=2x-4
-(x^2+2y=5)
———–
2y-(x^2+2y)=2x-4-(5)

Simplify:

-x^2=2x-9

Then add x^2 to both sides and solve the quadratic.
