There’s this girl I have a crush on who lives in Kentucky.

I live in a different state on the East Coast, and I haven’t seen her in over a year, but I’ve spoken with her occasionally online (email, facebook) since we left. But I still think of her all the time, I can’t get my mind off of her and I keep plotting an excuse to visit Lexington (where she lives), so I can ‘reunite’ with her, maybe even win her affection. At my high school, there is a debate team that has an end-of-year visit to Lexington where they have some kind of tournament, and so far it’s the only excuse I found to travel there. I know she didn’t have a crush on me when we last saw, but I feel like I can meet up with her somehow and be able to pull it off so that I can win her interest. Should I go for it? Is that too much of a stretch?

Yeah, go and see what happens. Even if you don’t win her love, which might not be worth it since she’s so far away, you should go for the sake of bettering yourself on the debate team. It will look excellent on your college resume.
Good luck, though…

yeah, but I feel like I have to change in a few ways (since I’m younger than her by a year), and also because she didn’t like me the way I did her when we last saw. what should I do to prepare if I’m going to Kentucky, with the mindset of seeing her?

I’m in a relationship with a guy who’s a year younger than me. As long as you’re likeable enough by yourself, there’s no need to worry about making major changes.
You should let her know you want to visit her online, and see if she’s excited about the idea or not. Then, consider making plans for her.
