question help: I have a question on renting for the first time. - Help.com

I have a question on renting for the first time.

Im going to start applying for units to move into. Ive found alot of info about renting, butI want to make sure my applications are good and done quickly, so I dont miss out on something I like.

My question is:

What sort of stuff is the landlord or agent going to ask for? Do they really ask for referees of previous landlords? (Ive never rented before!)

Do they ask for payslips and your income and employment details (like when you go for a loan?)

Thanks

If you’ve never rented before they’re going to need other references from you. Like your boss or previous co-workers, etc. They typically don’t ask for proof of income unless it’s subsidized housing. But a lot of landlords to ask for proof of employment.

Ok, thanks. I’ll get a letter of employment and my boss’s number as a referee. Thanks mate!

Sometimes they ask for previous landlord ref but as u never rented before they may want your parents address. Do u know about deposits and rent in advance? Hope u find somewhere nice.

Yes most landlords do look for proof of some kind of income. they will ask for your previous address and would like to speak with the landlord or property manager to verify rental history( if property was left in good condition, if you paid rent on time, and if there is a balance) and all they want to know really with your job is the length of time there, where, how much (to see if you can afford it).
