Not sure if this is the problem.

The Windows Update Web site and the Microsoft Update Web site do not scan for updates when you repair a failed installation of Windows XP Service Pack 2 or of Windows XP Service Pack 1

This is something I gathered lil_bit_shi was dealing with for you.

What to do about them!!! Only microsoft will be able to help you sort that lot out. See if you can find an online help support site, I think that would be you best avenue.

go to start/Help and Support/

Then click on

Undo changes with system restore.

You should have a restore point.
