“Happiness is not achieved by the conscious pursuit of happiness; it is generally the by-product of other activities.”

Aldous Huxley, Vedanta for the Western World, 1945

Like that one? Here’s another:

“A stupid man’s report of what a clever man says can never be accurate, because he unconsciously translates what he hears into something he can understand.”
Bertrand Russell

Or how about this one:

“To predict the behaviour of ordinary people in advance, you only have to assume that they will always try to escape a disagreeable situation with the smallest possible expenditure of intelligence.”
Friedrich Nietzsche

And finally:

“Every generation imagines itself to be more intelligent than the one that went before it, and wiser than the one that comes after it.”
George Orwell

These are excerpts from some of the greatest thinkers of recent times. If you want to find more of the same, just google the names. The internet is filled with intelligence, if you know where to look. It’s amazing how much time we spend focussed on mundanities when there is a whole world of knowledge out there waiting to be discovered.

The internet could potentially be one of the greatest inventions of all time - just imagine how Socrates or Plato would have felt, being able to instantly transmit their thoughts across the whole of the planet in seconds. We have been provided with the opportunity to change the future of humanity, we have been given the ultimate tool for revolution, but we must use it wisely. Don’t allow the internet to suck you in and destroy your contact with the outside world - use the knowledge you gain here and enrich your life and the lives of those around you. If we all work together to try to change the world, there is nothing we cannot achieve.

I know, it sounds corny, and you have heard it all a thousand times before, but maybe you should start listening. In the words of Friedrich Nietzsche:

“The individual has always had to struggle to keep from being overwhelmed by the tribe. If you try it, you will be lonely often, and sometimes frightened. But no price is too high to pay for the privilege of owning yourself.”
