friends help: I’m tired of dealing with my sister. - Help.com

I’m tired of dealing with my sister.

if someone gives me a compliment she’ll downplay it cause she has weight problems and tries to put me down in every way.I don’t want to say anything to her because she’s so pathetic but it’s getting on my nerves. I’m funnier than her and she gets all upset even if i’m joking around (not about her)….like today i answered this riddle and she got all mad at me and started making really personal insults. And she’ll get all insulting to me for no reason. She’s louder than me around people and i have kind of a problem talking to people so it irritates me a lot. Although i think people can see how pathetic she is. Each time someone makes a joke about her or when people used to make fun of her weight i used to build her up and i even argued with some of my friends when their teasing went too far. I helped her wear contact lenses and dress well. And this is the thanks i get. Why should i care then.I’m so tired of it. I want nothing to do with her.

Hey I think you have to have your own friends and let her have her own friends.
You seem a good person helping her. But she must deal with her own problems by her own. Don’t feel bad about her and don’t say she’s pathetic. This is very sad that you(her own brother) feels that towards her. She must feel that all the time. So have you tried telling her how do you feel? I mean without being angry?
If you are not happy around her, then try finding your own friends and she’ll have her own friends as well. But don’t sad things that hurt her, she might be feeling bad, and you are right, she must not do that to you, it’s not your fault. Just encourage her and stay her lovable brother. I think she feels that everyone think she is pathetic that’s why she behaves like she does. Imagine you being in her situation and feeling people’s bad thoughts! That hurts. She needs you all the time. And she needs encouragement.

Sorry for the long reply.
I bet your sister thinks you are the greatest person on earth :)
I bet she loves you too much too.
:)

I laughed when I read the “brother” thing, because it was obvious to me that you were sisters. There’s a natural competition between sisters and I think you’re experiencing being the sister who is “on top.” I think sisters naturally, although maybe subconsciously, compare themselves to each other. Your sister isn’t happy with herself, and you’re a constant reminder of that. I hope that she can work on her own self esteem independent of you because, otherwise, it could ultimately damage your relationship. I would like to say, try to be supportive of your sister and let her know you’re there for her… but I know how hard it is when your sister annoys you and attacks you and you just don’t want to deal with her anymore. Sometimes I think distance is the best answer, even if it means moving out. That forces her to focus more on herself and less on you. I don’t know if that helps you at all, but just know that you are not alone. A lot of people have major, lifelong issues dealing with a sister.

Sometimes sisters are just ******* and jealous. Forget them.
