writing help: How would I go about getting help to write a book or story? - Help.com

How would I go about getting help to write a book or story?

I’ve considered writing a story about how my daughters and I were separated during my divorce, and how we eventually were reunited.

Any ideas?

What’s stopping you. Just write it. The way the printing industry is now, if you wanted to self-publish you can have as many or as few printed as you like.

Buy the “Self-Publishing Manual”. That’s what I did.

It’s a book about how to publish your own book without going to a “vanity publisher” who will inflate the price. I self-published a novel in ‘97 and am planning to do it again when I find a good illustrator.

I spoke with a published writer/illustrator last week who says that publishing houses are not giving advances as much now, and have cut down the time on the “front list” to 3 months for a book to prove itself.

KnCsMommy: what do you mean by ‘help’? do you mean financing, or do you want someone to write the book for you(ie a ghost writer)? or are you just looking for advice? if the latter, check out http://help.com/post/159740-im-a-writ…

Good to see my posts are relevant to more people than just myself!

Anyway, like sansceriph said, just write the thing. There’s no harm in writing it. Even if it doesn’t get published, you can still have the satisfaction of having written a book.
