The secret to a less stressful life is…

Yoga! I actually sat still, and did a session of Yoga and I feel unexplainably awesome.
Also, a nice hot bath and soft warm lighting helps.. Anyone have any stress relieving methods they’d like to discuss?

I’m not in the best of physical shape, do I have to do all those contortion looking stretches, or is it adaptable?

Understanding you are stressed is important, its the first step.. Just take a few minutes out of the day to stretch a little, do a sit up or two, maybe a pushup.. Just tack on more each day. I went from a 10 minute routine to about 2 hours spread out throughout the day.

“Yoga” is often said to mean “Union” and then they talk about it meaning “union of mind and body”, however there are many branches of Yoga, some more focussed on spirit, some on mind and body. Then there is yoghurt, which has as much hurt in it as there is harm in harmony. Couldn’t tell you what that means, but anyone who uses computers should take breaks and stretch, say ergonomics experts.

One way to live less stressfully is to not let oneself get stressed in the first place, or to work out the tiny stressors before they get big, or have an immensely happy day where luckily everyone in sight loves and accepts you.

I had a Yoga DVD, and the guy coached about exercises … one of the poses was “Downward Dog” … no thanks, but I understand the helpful intent.

I run with my dog everyday. I take him for about an hour, that is usually his limit before he needs to use the bathroom and I hate carrying a bag of poop in my hand LOL. He tricked me yesterday though after a half hour he did the deed, luckily I was in the park and I was able to dispose of it. But I take a different route each day and I am not always in the park. Also this forum helps relieve some stress.

I did some yoga off the TV and man I was not having the best of times. But I did feel a little better after. I need to go rent a DVD that starts at the basics.

I read something today which redefined “meditation” as “being in and experiencing the whole body, rather than being lost in the abstractions of mind and ego”. Odd definition, but it sounds like a good way to talk about being so physically present that it’s possible to take care of physical needs like relieving physical tensions and pressures.

Humor and refreshing conversations can relieve stress if people are on a good wavelength for that.

There’s the catharsis of drama. or there’s taking a walk around the lake. or massage. I think people use scented bath oils and aromatherapy to relieve stressors.

One thing is…. any muscle movement involves both tension and relaxation, and perhaps every part of life is like that in some way. So maintaing a healthy and happy stress/nostress level may be natural and/or ideal.

Is Yoga hard to do? What if you are heavy set? Is it difficult to do? What about Pilates?

Jackie I think the main thing is flexibility. I have never tried Pilates so I don’t know about that. I had problems with Yoga cause I don’t stretch like I should

Of course not. I am not heavy and I had a hell of a time due to the fact that I don’t stretch anymore. Was trying to do some pose where you are bent over nd reach through and grab you ankle and tilt your head up to the ceiling (I think) and then hold the pose. Man I was swearing like crazy. Also I felt stupid since I couldnt do the stuff. But I forced myself through the full half hour show and said I was going to do it everyday. That was 5 months ago and I have conventiently been asleep for the show every morning. LOL
