so what’s this shst that makes humanity the master race and the scum of the earth at the same time?

secularly speaking please, because we are not going to deal with the religious “we are the stewards of the earth for god” stuff.

the way i see it, humanity is just another species that is having its chance under the sun. as all species, we must be able to survive, or we’ll die out.

now it’s very noble and smart for us to care about our environment and protect endangered species and such, but what’s this notion that humanity is disrupting the destiny of the world and some sh!t like that? are we derailing earth and evading the natural order of life?

species come and species go, and that’s really all we are. as lovely as it is to be human (thank god for indoor plumbing and air conditioning), i think we’ve got to accept the fact that we shall no longer be here someday. once upon a time the world existed without us, and someday it will do so again (unless we’re unfortunate enough to be around when the sun goes supernova on us).

and as “unnatural” as humanity may seem to be, we’re really only following nature’s most basic instincts: survive and reproduce.

everything we’ve done revolves around this. to survive and reproduce, we must be healthy. to be healthy, we must have nutrients and we must be happy. from these needs come every action of every single person on the earth (barring the selfish-suicidal ones, though still including the selfless-suicidal ones, if you understand what i mean). from this we get the wheel, the lightbulb, the telephone, the internet, the car, love, family, homes, marraige, religion, etc. we’re just freaking normal animals. not in a negative way, cuz i sure love animals. it’s just a fact.

what is so unnatural about a species going extinct? as unfortunate as it is and certainly in this day and age preventable, species have been dying out for years. what’s so unnatural about species putting others at risk? what’s unnatural about a species changing its environment to suit themselves?

now i know people can point out that no species has done anything like humanity has done on a scale like this, but i bet you that’s what the minnows thought when they watched the first salamander crawl out of the water. why does everyone insist that humanity is the end-all to creation? everyone seems to completely bar out the possibility of new species forming that is beyond ours. as unlikely as it might be, humanity is not without its ability to adapt. for example, if the retrovirus AIDS ever became an airborne virus, we’d all be screwed except for those people who have been born with a natural immunity to it. like this guy: http://www.time.com/time/magazine/art...
this is just a small piece of evidence about how fast humanity is able to adapt. imagine this species hundreds of years from now.

but let’s just say that for the sake of argument that we can’t adapt quite fast enought to survive the next disease/natural disaster. ok. so then we’re dead. time for another species to take over. maybe it’s the horses or the cats or dogs or the freaking panda bears and narwhals, but SOMEthing will take our place. you know the phrase “nature abhors a vacuum”? yeah, the world doesn’t stop when we’re gone.

realistically thinking, if we do end up in species-suicide, we’ll probably take out those species too, but hey, i heard that life began even before cats and dogs. hell, if the roaches take over the world in our absence, it would be the most natural thing ever.

obviously it’s wise to conserve resources, preserve species, and maintain out environment because it’s comfy, and i like it this way. this environment is the best way to stay happy and healthy (remember our mission, “survive and reproduce”) and i don’t exactly want my future generations living in a hell-hole.
that’s all fine and dandy with me, kudos and good job, but what i’m pointing out is that humanity is just a part of earth’s lifetime. we’re not some godly/alien creatures who are disrupting the circle of freaking life. people calm down. i know you won’t behave any differently but i just wanted to get that concept through to those of you who are on a mission against your own species. silly buggers.

If you haven’t already, you should read ‘the Story of B’ or ‘Ishmael’ by Daniel Quinn. I think you’d like them.

ishmael’s pretty interesting. i don’t agree with quinn on many of his ideas, but he’s a great writer/thinker.

I think humans will still exist in some form, even millions of years from now. We’ll just have evolved into something unrecognizable.

see, that’s what i’m thinking. we’re just a natural part of the evolution cycle. kinda makes you excited doesn’t it? of course, despite the fact that we’ll be dead by then. cool.
