homework help: Hey I need some chemistry help. - Help.com

Hey I need some chemistry help.

These are two questions I need answered:

Which of the following pairs of compounds could be mixed to produce a buffer solution?
A. CH3NH3I and HI
B. CH3NH2 and CH3NH3I
C. CH3NH3I and NH4I
D. HI and NH4I
E. CH3NH2 and NH3

How much 2-M H2O4 is required to neutralize 100 mL of 2-M NaOH?
A. 50 mL
B. 100 mL
C. 150 mL
D. 200 mL
E. 500 mL

For the first question, I can’t get it because I don’t know whether CH3NH3I is a base or an acid. I know it’s not D, as both are acids, and E, because both are bases. The second one I’m completely lost on — admittedly. I know it’s not B.

Thanks in advance!

CH3NH3I is acidic.

Woo thanks. So it’d be B then?

Oh, and how do you know that? What’s the rule in that case?

I don’t know chemistry. I used google. Second question if you meant H2SO4 (not H2O4) then:
Since both protons in H2SO4 are acidic protons relative to NaOH, both H’s will react with NaOH. Thus, a balanced chemical reaction is written as:
H2SO4 + 2NaOH = Na2SO4 + 2H2O
This indicates that 2 moles of NaOH are needed to fully react with 1 mole of H2SO4 (per mole of reaction).

That’s funny, I put it into google myself, and brought up no responses. Well, hehe, I guess you’re a much better searcher than me. Thanks.

On the 2nd question, I indeed meant H2O4. I wish it was H2SO4 — that’d be much much more simple.

This was a kind of online homework assignment that needed to be submitted.

I went with the B response and it was right
For the other question, I guessed “50 mL,” as you suggested, and it was also right.

Thanks!
