Here is my reply:

Hii.

I am finally getting a car and will be moving out for the summer and taking a night class at BRCC. I have two car choices so if one falls through I’ve got first dibs on the other for sure. I should have the car and be ready to move out no later than the 21st (Wednesday) .

I move to Texas for Uni in mid August.

I am respectful and quiet. I will keep to my self. I am not very judgmental or rude. I do have a humor, I love laughing and I also know when to be serious. I am not dirty, I am terrified of roaches. I will keep all common areas clean. I promise to be a good roomie. I can and WILL pay my rent.

I have a doggie but he CAN stay with my parents absolutely not a problem. But if you were to consider him, he is small and has the personality of an “old man”. He only barks at the door bell and to hush him all you do is simply say “Shut up” or “Hush”. He is not a watch dog haha at all so if he is not near the door he wont even bother to bark . He listens very well and is just a smart loving doggie. Fully no doubt house trained and will NOT damage a thing. He sleeps and lazes about mostly.

If the room is still available I would love to see it, see some pictures or come out and meet you.
Please get back at me.

Ok is there anything I should add? Have I typed too much should I take out something?

It sounds a bit informal. make it sound more like:

Dear…

I have a car and own a dog blah blah blah….

I want this apartment because…

Yours faithfully/sincerely…

I think if you just add “dear” and some kind of closing, you’ve got yourself a perfect application! =)

Ok how about I open with “Dear possible roomie”
And close with “Thank you very much for your time! =] ~Myname”

I have a very sweet sounding name that should make it more formal!

How is that?

Thank you very much Meg! I have never applied before and I just wanted to run it by someone first to get a second opinion.

If I can be bold enough to say it, I think you are saying WAY too much in your letter. I wouldn’t mention anything about your car or your dog, since if there are several applications, they might not even want to bother to try to think about these things. If you get to talk, then you can mention them. But, you don’t want to give them any reason to not call you back in your first letter…

Hmm I feel rude to not mention these things upfront. I will be living with the person, shouldn’t I try to get my personalty across in this letter? New car and limping doggie .. is me. Ok so say I redo the first paragraph:

Dear Possible Roomie,

I am moving out for the summer and taking a night class at BRCC which starts May the 26th. I will be ready to move out no later than the 21st (Wednesday).

If the room is still available I would love to see it, see some pictures or come out and meet you.
Please get back at me.
Thank you very much for your time!
~Myname =] “

Then if I get a reply hit them up with the rest of the info?

Do others agree with this or leave the fluff parts?

You are very smart! If the person offering you their apartment is thinking clearly, they are going to ask for references (to make sure that you aren’t psycho, and will pay your bills, among other things.) You should do the same. Even though it’s only for the summer, you should spend some time asking about your roommates…one place to start is asking who their employer is, and then asking the employer for a character reference.

And, I’m not sure how many people you will have in the house with you, but you should meet them all…

Ok, tell me what you think of this. I searched myspace and used the email he provided and it returned a profile belonging to a 54 year old male. I will be patient and wait for a reply but what do you make of that?

Run away. Fast.

It’s not even worth considering. This guy might be as innocent as a newborn babe, but if he was as soon as he found out you were a young female (presuming that you are!) he would withdraw the offer. If he’s not innocent, then God help you.

There are other rooms out there. Don’t sweat this one.

OK, time to think rationally…it’s possible that this is your new roommate’s Dad. You might be OK, but be very, very careful.
