How do I make friends?

I’ve been seeing a lot of people lately, and they’ve been saying hi to me or starting small scale conversations with me, and I’m getting the impression that people are open to getting to know me. As much as I’d like to move forward and get to know them, I’m not sure what the steps are or if there are any. Also, I have a hard time distinguising ‘polite interest’ and ‘genuine interest’ from other people. How do you know when somebody actually wants to know you better, and isn’t exhibiting interests to pass the time ‘make me feel better’ (since they see me by myself). How do I go about making friends?

I’m 15 and people are talking to me a bit and I don’t know what to do, in simple terms.

You should listen! Hear what they say so you can reply and take interest in what they like. Be yourself. You dont have to blow it out the water, so you will know if the interest in genuine if they continue to speak to you.

Its also really nice when the other person ask question so throw in a few of those. If things keep going well maybe you guys can even hang out after school hours on the week end, but of course that might be a while.
