I love Vegas… It’s a pleasure to tell you what I know.
Anyhow, I’ve made a habit of staying at the Bellagio. The rooms are quite decent and the service is superb. Standard rooms themselves are not particularly large, but the bathrooms are particularly nice. In addition, the Bellagio has a collection of truly great restaurants and fascilities. Great pool and a truly excellent spa with very expensive but very worthwhile massage services. Sadly, I was a bit disappointed my last stay. I think the Bellagio is considered a 4 star hotel, but I’d consider shaving off half a star. I was a bit put off by the fact that the hotel has become so big and popular that it is no longer has what I would call an exclusive feel. Also, I felt that housekeeping on my floor was over-stretched and it showed in the minor details. Like spotty bed turn down service in the evening. When I go to Vegas, I like to dress up like it’s still the Rat Pack era, so call me elitist, but I was sad that the hotel seems to be over-run by the tackily dressed masses. It’s no worse than the Venetian, but after 9/11 the drop in tourism actually made the Bellagio feel less mass market oriented. Maybe I had gotten too used to that. I’m seriously thinking about switching my future business over to the Red Rock which is 10 minutes off the strip and attracts a more local casino crowd. It lacks great restaurants, but it also feels less crowded. Plus, you can gamble at the pool and the rooms are actually larger, as well as more modern, hip and stylish than the Bellagio’s. (Flat screen TV’s at the foot of the bath tub!)
I’ve never stayed at the Venetian, but I have heard that the rooms are larger than at the Bellagio’s. The shopping mall is better than the Bellagio’s and the hotel does have some great restaurants too. I particularly enjoyed Lutece. Still, despite the complaints I’ve had with the Bellagio, I would still pick the Bellagio over the Venetian. Tough call, but once you get away from the rooms, I think the Bellagio is a better overall hotel.
