I don’t believe in ghosts.

I don’t believe in demons. I don’t believe in spirits or angels. But something odd has been happening in my home for a very long time.

I’m 20 years old. I’m in college, and I live with my parents and my brother and sister. Ever since we were children, my sister has always had a horrible fear of her closet. She keeps it locked with a bicycle chain to this day. Around five years ago, she finally gave a name to the ‘thing’ that supposedly lives in her closet. She calls it the Tick, after the old Disney show. That’s what she said she was watching the first time it ’spoke’ to her. Normally, I’d dismiss this as a ‘monster in the closet’ kind of fear, but I remember distinctly a story my grandmother told me after my sister was born. My grandmother was staying with my family just after my sis was born. She was sleeping in the same room as the baby crib. She woke up to my sister crying; when she looked at the crib, she saw a shadowy, man-like figure stooping over it. She reached over and flipped on the light, and it was gone.

We hear things in my house all the time. Grunts, whispers, and even an occasional moan or sob. I’ve had doors shut in my face, appliances shut off, and I’ve even seen ‘people’ in my home. When I investigate, I find no one. Even my friends, when visiting, get uneasy. A couple have seen or heard things.

I remember specifically the first time I ever saw a shadowy figure. It was late at night and I was getting ready for bed. I walked through my house towards the restroom, and in the living room, I saw a figure speed toward a parallel hallway. There was no sound, and the figure didn’t move anything on it, like arms or legs. It just kind of floated. It scared me so badly that I started sobbing with fear. I thought there was an intruder in my house! That’s how real it seemed. But no one was there.

The worst things happen to my sister. She’s a very honest kid; she acts like it’s completely normal for every girl to have a ghost in their closet. Her blankets have been yanked off in the middle of the night (her closet is always open the next morning, with the blankets in it), her clothes have gone missing right off of her back in the night (we’ve never found the clothes that go missing), and she’s even seen something peeking at her over the edge of her bed. Our two dogs refuse to go into her room. They’ve been in there before, but all they do is whine and scratch at the door, or bark at her closet.

No, I’m not a troll post. I’m a self-proclaimed skeptic, but it would be ignorant of me just to pretend these things aren’t affecting me. I just keep writing them off; ‘it was the wind’, or ‘our house is just old.’ But some of these things I can’t honestly explain. I chose to be anonymous because I’m ashamed that I am letting this get to me this badly, but I don’t really know what to do. I have goosebumps and tears in my eyes writing this right now.

If anyone can relate, or give advice, it would be much appreciated.

I have a few friends who have experienced similar kind of stuff. I believe what you say, there is definitely a problem here. The friend I know who had the freakiest experience ( he woke up 1 night to find something trying to suffocate him), became a Christian after it happened. He hasn’t had any problems since, to my knowledge. I know a lot of people on this site will laugh at this post, but I genuinely believe that the only way to rid yourself of the problem is to solve this in a religious angle, more specifically Christianity. In short, I would get a local minister or something involved. If you are not particularly religious and would prefer not to go this route, I have some personal knowledge that I can share with you. But my knowledge is extremely limited, a pastor would probably be better.

I never EVER believed in ghosts, and I still am pretty sure that I don’t. BUT, after I moved to Thailand (where almost everybody believes in ghosts) I remember having a few thoughts about the matter. I still don’t know what to think, but after you mentioned your sister naming the closet ghost “Tick”… it made me remember something I read in Thailand about certain “tick” ghosts, that were similar to the shape of a tick, but more human-like. Imagine a man’s body and a tick’s body combined. And they apparently have SMALL mouths, and they are doomed to wander around the world, starving, trying to consume anything but unable to because of the small mouth, so they just suck what small amount of substances they can get from any place, filthy nor not. Sounded slightly disturbing. :P

well.. i believe you… i can see spirits and see things happen before they happen.. my suggestion is to do a bit of research on your house.. find out who lived there, who owned it.. etc.. has this happened before you guys moved into this house? if not.. then the spirit was there to begin with.. and possibly, the room that your sister is in was this persons room.. and he is feeling violated.. i would find out what the history is… maybe in life, he lost a child.. a daughter.. and that is why he is around your sister so much… the best way to deal with this spirit is to let him or her know that you are scared.. because they will usually make their presence less noticeable.. tell them to leave you alone.. and go to the light because they are dead..

I used to be a Christian. These things have always happened. It didn’t help.

We’ve moved three times, but the ‘Tick’ keeps following us. In every house the same things happen. Bear in mind, we didn’t move because of the Tick; my parents just kind of brush off the strange occurrences.

I don’t like to think of the Tick as something that used to be human. I really don’t believe in these things at all. I guess I’m just at wit’s end. At night, when I feel something watching me, I get the distinct impression that it wants to HURT me. I know that sounds really, really stupid, but it’s the truth.

I have what my father thinks is a little poltergeist in my room, and he sent me holy water to stop him. I would hear cackles, screams, a little girl or man talking to me, things would fly off my shelves without reason, shadows would move, papers would rustle, I’d feel someone hold me down, choke me, or sit on my bed at night and wake up with no one there. That seemed to work. Whatever it is, I don’t think it’s good. Ghost or not, these weird things are happening to your sister, offen without explaination. If it is a ghost, I’d think you’re living on Indian burial grounds or a war ground. Doesn’t sound pleasent. Try debunking it some more maybe, and if that doesn’t work, try addressing the bugger by name. Go down a list if you have to and tell it to back off. Of course, I’m no expert, so if this doesn’t work, sorry.

all i know is that spirits will not hurt you.. however this spirit is a bit scary.. i suggest having someone come to your house to spread holy water and do some kind of prayer to get rid of this thing.. there is something that seems to be with your sister.. seeing it keeps following her especially.

i beleive in ghosts per’say, i don’t beleive in good angels and evil demons, and all that stuff, but there are two almost scientific princibles i go by, one is time isn’t always constant, everywhere at the same ‘time’, and two phsyical matter is really energy kinda. so things like ghosts i don’t think are supernatural, just a freak of nature. how x-files do i sound?!?! lmao! we just don’t understand it all yet ;)
i’ve heard far to many stories, and seen too much weird stuff myself to think thats its all in my mind, or collective minds (when more than one person see’s its)
i think its a natural occurance. which is why being an atheitist, i still beleive in sort of a life after death.
otherwise, if your tired, you brain doesn’t keep up the processing with your eyes and makes you see things. just so i do sound like a am a skeptic, which i am ;)

You should have someone come in and do a spiritual cleansing. It may take several tries. You should not allow this entity to continue invading you and your sister. It may lead to further injury.

You mentioned moving and the entity following your sister. Then I must consider a demon assigned to your sister. I had a demon follow me from job to job and making my life miserable for 4 years. I caught on to it on the fourth try when the lady who had been possessed made a strange comment and gave me an unnatural grin with eyes wide open and no blinking. Only then I understood. Being a christian and being attacked now and then by dark entities I can assure you the sister needs to accept Jesus as her personal savior and claim his blood and protection to be able to overcome this persecussion. These entities to not eat, sleep or rest. They cannot be destroyed only binded and sent somewhere else. You want to live in peace not in torture. I have been tormented by these evil spirits many times and it doesn’t get any better unless YOU claim the blood of Jesus and stand against them.

I was a Christian before, and these occurrences continued. My sister IS a Christian, so as much as I appreciate your advice, please don’t make assumptions regarding my sister’s faith, and please don’t preach to me. I’ve heard these things before, and to be quite honest, God has been little to no help against this intruder. I’m NOT saying I don’t believe in God, I’m just saying that while I was a Christian, things remained much the same, and my sister has been a Christian for years. I do appreciate the concern, though.

Get a exorcist. Thats all I have to say. If its stalking you, maybe someone in your family is cursed or possessed.

ok ayc, that’s a really stupid comment. Lot’s of atheists end up claiming to see ghosts. and ayc, nobody really believes in ghosts until they see one. So just because you haven’t seen one, don’t go around acting so much smarter than everyone else. Having said that I’m neither Christian nor do I believe in ghosts, but so many thousands of people have claimed to have seen ghosts, and the notion of ghosts has been around for millennia across cultures…so who’s to say they really don’t exist? ayc, do you have definite proof of their nonexistence, more than just you not seeing one?

Now, I would really recommend someone sleeping in your sister’s room or allowing her to sleep with you. This child will be traumatized, so she needs some support. Also, when there is two of you, the “whatever” will have less power to scare you. It seems to be feeding off that power. Maybe you can tell it off since you’re older. Tell it that a) it is not scaring you b) that it needs to leave because it doesn’t belong here

–does it always stay in the closet? Search the closet. Or maybe put her in a room without a closet.

–does it act up during certain times, days, after a certain occurrence?

–whenever you feel its presence, keep telling it that you’re shutting off its power source and it’s no longer welcome here. I think it likes your sister because kids usually are scared more easily, are said to be more susceptible to ghosts, and they also have much more (psychic? some kind of )energy. She needs to shut off that power source of fear and energy that this thing is feeding off of to survive.

–she said it spoke to her. what did it say?

–it could be that your sister is just sleepwalking and having nightmares, but since things are happening to you too, maybe not.

–has anything happened since your last post?
