Love help: Being a server makes you prejudice. - Help.com

Being a server makes you prejudice.

Please no one get offended here! I am serious there are these stereotypes about bad tippers and every server hears them. Then if they are fulfilled a few times, then you start to believe them. I don’t want to believe them! I love all people and all races. Why do these things sometimes seem to be true. For example: all ********** people are bad tippers. Fill in the blank here. I have never felt prejudice about people outside of the restaurant just so you know. Let’s talk about this intelligently. Why do these things happen?

I don’t think anyone can say that they hate humanity and truely, honestly mean it until they’ve worked as a cashier at McDonald’s. :P

I’m guilty, I’m a bad tipper. I never know how much to tip at restaurants when I’m abroad. It’s because here tipping isn’t that common. Here we like to pay for the service provided, and the employees are well paid, so they don’t live of tips. Sure, I’ve tipped at bars here, but that’s only because I can’t be arsed to carry too much change in my pockets.

What’s an appropriate amount to tip in restaurant? Does it differ from what kind of establishment it is? Is it sexist to tip more if you find the server to be hot?

…But is it equally predjudice to give the ugly ones a bigger tip because you feel sorry for them?

In the US, a 15% is considered good service and a 20 percent is for excellent service. Other countries are different, but in the US waiters are only paid $3 an hour, so you can see how important tipping can be.

There is one thing that really annoys me. Every time I’ve eaten at the Bones restaurant in Denmark (spareribs and all), the waiter comes over like 5 minutes into the meal to ask if we need anything more. So there I am, in elbows deep in spareribs with my mouth stuffed (I’m not a fancy eater, especially at that type of restaurants), and the idiot asks “do you have enough of everything? More fries or anything?”… Don’t these people have eyes? The table is packed with food, so don’t come over to me and ask, forcing me to swallow fast and wipe my mouth in order to answer. Wait until I’ve almost finished to ask me questions. It’s disruptive to my meal. And sometimes they come over several times to ask “is everything good?”… Like I wouldn’t automatically tell them if the food was bad. It’s bad manners when a waiter hangs over people while they eat. No tip.
