I am 72.

A patient of essential HT for about15 years. I take Norvasc 5 mg, Renitec 5 mg & half tablet of Disperine daily.

I am quite regular in 5 days a week excersise that include brisk walk for 3 miles in 47 minutesand some time in the gym for chest and arms excercise. There was a break in my excercise due to hernia operation. Now I have reduced walking to 2 miles in 32 minutes.

Today as I was driving back from the the gym my heart fluttered a bit and I felt as if it was about to stop. I stopped the car and took deep breaths for about 3 minutes. After feeling slightly better, I started driving quite slowly and reached my house after about 10 minutes of driving. I was nearly staggering from the car to my room. I took a cold drink of fresh lime and kept taking deep breaths. After about 5 minutes, the heart suddenly became normal. It is 4 hours now and I am feeling normal.

There was no pain in the chest. What did I go Through? What next?

You should go to a doctor I think, At least to find out what the problem is.

I think this is a medical situation which you should talk to a doctor about. What you experienced could be a wide range of things… a reaction to your medication.. a mild panic attack .. or something which needs medical intervention.

Your doctor will be able to reassure and advise you best on this I think.

it sounds like heart palpitations. my sister had them a few years ago but she’s better now. she had cyanosis along with it.
The doctors never found out what was wrong with her and did what all doctors do when they don’t know whats wrong…they told her she was fine and nothing was wrong, but now that she’s learning about medical conditions in college, she thinks she found what was wrong. she thinks she has/had Raynaud’s disease
http://www.cnn.com/HEALTH/library/DS/…

have your fingers ever turned blue and gone numb? especially when under stress? if so, go to your doctor and bring up the possibility of raynaud’s disease..they’re not guaranteed to know anything about the disease, but if you bring it up they’re more likely to look into it

You were having what sounds like heart palpitations. Call your cardiologist and see what he/she has to say.

I would imagine giving any form of medical advice on a site like this would be seriously frowned upon by the admins. It would definitely be worth going to a doctor and getting it checked out.

Thanks to all who came up with their advice. Yes, I visited the cardiologist. He has asked for 3 tests, 3D Echo, Doppler and Holters Monitoring. I have got appointments for all the three tests for next week.

The doctor added a non hypertention medicine. It is to keeo acitity down and prevent reflux. Does it have any connection.

I thank you all for your good wishes. Thank God all test were OK. Holter Monitor recorded ECG for 25 hours. During that time I did my normal walk and Gym. Pulse rate was between low of 55 during sleeo and high of 121 at 1:42 PM. I asked cardiologist there seems to something wrong because I went through physical stress during exercise between 6 to 7 PM. That is when pulse should have been highest. He said that it is higher at meal time. I am now back to my normal routine.

About 6 months ago I went through surgery for hernia. A mesh about 10×6 cm was put in. What care is needed to prevent any damage. I am avoiding stress on my stomach.

Masud

Hi Masud. I’m pleased your results at the cardiologist went well.

As far as I am aware, your hernia mesh should present no problems at all. Talk to your doctor about resuming exercise. These days, the general advice seems to be that it’s important to keep as active as possible after mesh surgery. But of course each person is different and that’s why only your doctor will be able to give you the correct advice for you personally.

Good luck.
