I’m scared of becoming homeless

I’m currently living in a share house with three boys. When I moved in it was with a friend from work but she has since left the house. The house in itself is rather crappy, my room has no glass in the windows and there is basically a gutter running through it along the back wall. But the rent is good and I have nowhere else to go until the end of July. This morning, one of my housemates sat down and told me that they want me out. They have a friend who they want to have move in and they don’t want me here anymore (they also recently found out that I like girls but I’m not sure if this is effecting their decision.) I have plans to move in with friends at the end of July so I was already leaving but I can’t go any sooner, and I need a roof over my head so I can finish this semester of uni. I’m utterly stressed out and exhausted and although they can’t legally kick me out (my name is on the lease as well as theirs) they are capable of making my life hell until I leave. They’re already passive agressive and scary, but there is pretty much nothing I can do. Please help, even if it’s just a few words of comfort.

Have you told them when you are leaving? give them the date and bedone with it. do it professionally and say thanks for letting me stay I have secured a new home, however, I can not move out until ___DATE__- and see what happens

I’m 20, they know about the end of July, but their antagonising me. Trying to get me out sooner… I know that I’ll physically be alright until the end of July, but I also know it’s going to be very uncomfortable living with them. They gay jokes are getting a bit ridiculous.

Just try to be the bigger person and ignore it, have you tried talking to them one on one …is any of them kinder thent he others that you can maybe go out to lunch with and “plead” your case like tell him I really need your help…. ( play the girl card,its hardsometimes but guys want to be the hero and it s game that is okay to play every once in a while)

I don’t understand… I could maybe involve the real estate, but that would be far to messy just for the month and a half left here… Idk, I guess I just need to find a way to live in peace, but it’s difficult

They’re not really the lunching type… they sort of prefer to sit at home smoking bongs and playing guitar… I’m actually glad to be leaving… but yeah I just wish there was a way to make the next month and a half easier.

I’m sorry these guys are treating you this way. The stress you must be under must be huge right now. I’m finishing a quarter right now with only 3 classes and am feeling enough stress with just that! My rent is going to be late, so I know about the stress and worry of being homeless too (it’s always scratching at the very back of my mind). If you could swing it, maybe you could get some paralegal (or do you know any law students?) to write you a letter of fancy letterhead so that it looks like it came from an attorney. The letter should say in very fancy legal talk… stop harassing prior to the voluntary move in July, or you will be forced to sue for breech of contract… then site a case or two where people did that… I’m sure it’s happened.

yeah.. it would be fun to see. I’m sure there is law on the books like that too. I’ve heard of people that have sued for wrongful discharge from their job because they were harassed. I’m willing to bet many a landlord has harassed people to get them to move out. I know your room-mates are not the LL, but still it would be fun. That’s one reason why it would be cool to have Pre-Paid Legal… for $20 a month or so, I can get all the legal letters I want for free.

Actually now that Richard said that- you should have FREE legal representation through the university you attend and can get something like that from one of the camous lawyers…. call the office today.

Try sittin with them and talkin to them. Laugh when they pick on you. Don’t take any legal actions like callin the cops for the weed. Since your names under the house list. You may get in some trouble too.

Well, what I usually do in a bad situation like that is that I pray and ask God to help me. The Bible teaches that God can make a way where there seems to be no way. He can help you if you will ask Him.

For those who belong to God, He says:

“For I am the LORD, your God, who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you.” Isa41:13

“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Isa41:10

So, pray, and then do what you can to help yourself, and then act on any opportunities the Lord sends your way! I know God will help those who call on him. Best wishes!
