Jin Patisserie
Cookies, glorious cookies! A very close second to cheese is the simple artisanal cookie. I read about Jin Patisserie in a food magazine and was intrigued by their chocolate offering. It was a pleasant surprise to find that Kristy Choo, the woman behind the magic, also creates cakes and wonderful cookies. Her little pastry boutique and tea garden are located in Venice, California, but you can order her amazing creations online. And, that’s just what I did.
I love “the cookie” and started with the basic Chocolate Chip and Shortbread (called Diamante). I threw in the Lavender Almond for good measure. When they arrived, I felt like a child at Christmas, full of excitement and glee as I opened the box. Pulling out each cellophane bag, I examined each closely taking note of the packaging and individual cookies. Believe it or not, I didn’t rip open the bags and stuff myself silly. After admiring Jin Patisserie’s logo design and simple orange ribbon tie, I finally opened the Chocolate Chip cookies first – crunchy (the way I like it), tasty, with just the right amount of a brown sugary good feel. The Diamante was so delicate and smooth melt-in-your-mouth, dare I say it rivals the shortbread we received at French Laundry. The Lavender Almond was such a delight – crunchy and gently flaky. The bits of almonds really complimented the subtle lavender flavor. This would be perfect with a nice Earl Grey or English Breakfast. I definitely pleased with my purchase and plan to go back for seconds.
