looking for a book that would be a good introduction to buddhism…

im not really looking for every little detail about the specifics of how to practice it… (soup spoon on the left isn’t what im after) instead i’m looking for a deep look into the structure of the belief, its teachings, and the philosophies of life it presents… i’ve read alot of bad reviews for a bunch of the begginners guides to buddhism on amazon, so “buddhism for dummies” isn’t really the direction im going for…

try reading something by the Dalai Lama himself… the road to happiness is a fgood one (or is it, path to happiness? i forget).

there are many different forms of buddhism, some that don’t count the Dalai Lama as a spiritual leader… have you looked on the internet?

amazon is terrible for spiritual kinds of things anyway, i doubt you’ll find much help there.

You may find some useful info on here.. http://www.bbc.co.uk/religion/religio…

It has some links to sites which may point you in the direction of good reading material. Good luck.

With buddhism, you can’t really jump in at the deep end (no pun intended)
Something by Thich Nhat Hanh is good to start with, too.
For a more involved discourse, “The Tibetan Book of Living and Dying” by Sogyal Rinpoche is a stoater.

hmmm… well i heard that the Tibetan Buddhism is very different from other Buddhism… but i will look into it… and i guess the best description for what im looking for can be explained as such. If a Buddhist priest (or expert of any kind) had 1 week to teach me the ways and philosophies of Buddhism, what he would teach in that week. If i could find that in book form it would be great… i’ll be looking into the suggestions above, and thank you very much for them.
