hahahaha! I guess it would!
If you are a grown male adult, I would have no hesitations about going alone. Which ‘burb?
That is a long drive Max. What kind of dog. Straight thru or a hotel. Call ahead and see if dog is ok. Is dog protective. Its a wiggly world out there. I’d feel better if dog was protective or a male with you.
I would leave later, you will be there for your friend during the burial and still have your friend to drive with you to your new home.
I think that this would be more helpful to your friend as well, in helping to forget about the death of their grandmother.

I am a female adult. I will be living in a northwest burb 20 min. from Chicago.

My dog is not a guard dog. He is a sweet little mut, but some people think he looks mean. I was planning on staying at least one, if not two nights in a hotel.

My friend’s grandmother lives in Washington, so staying would not help her out. Also, she is not that close to her grandmother. She would be going to support her mother.

Do you have gps?
No, but I am excellent with a map. It is not a difficult route at all. I probably could get there without a map.
In that case perhaps another family member to fly down to accompany you. It is I think better to be as safe as you can be.
do iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit!!!!!! go by yerself!!! just make sure you stay in good places and dont pick up any hitchhikers.
flippin do it.
crank out bon jovi, wind down the windows and sing till you go hoarse!!!
dont let the evils steal yer fun.
as long as youre wise about stopping you should be ok.
Well, this is ironic. I’m leaving tomorrow to move from Pennsylvania to Arizona. Haha I’ll fill your space in the population.
Seriously though, drive it. Think of everything you’ll get to see!! It’ll be a great opportunity to have you time (or you and Fido time). Figure out where you can stop and sleep and whatnot and have at it. You’re in for one hell of a ride :O)

I 2nd wot Courty said lol go for it. Just be sure to stop before you get tired, dont pick up any strange people, stay in proper accommodation (or some thing) eat well and have lots of bottled water in the car with you.
and dont forget that dogs need to pee too
27 hours is a long time to only stay in two hotels, Maxi. 10 hours is a hell of a long time to drive in one day, I’ll just say that. I think you need another driver. I fell asleep once driving to New Mexico. Just for an instant. It freaked me out! Then it was hard to find a place to stay. Gotta plan it out.
well she doesnt just have to stay in two hotels.

I agree, she could stay in three, but she’d still be driving nine hours a day … maybe not SO bad, but a companion would be nice
chicago chicago chicago.
i love this city.
is it weird of me to ask what suburb you’ll be in? maybe it is.
just curious.
i think you’d be totally fine going it alone if you want to. as long as you do make at least two stops like you’re planning.
in my opinion it could depend a lot on your personality.
i’ve done 8 hours through by myself (sort of, my companion slept the whole way since it was a night drive) and it’s not really bad at all, however, i am more of an introverted person so even the silence, or music did me fine. so i dont see 10 hours in one day being all that bad.
i’d suggest getting some books on cd or putting them on your ipod or whatever you use to listen to music. makes time fly.
but! if you are the sort of person who is a party looking for a place to happen, that long in the car by yourself is going to kill you!
personally though, i do love road trips, and i love to share the experience with someone. so i’d like to drive with someone along with me… but i think that either way you’d be fine.
fun fun fun!
also..
i have a friend that drove 20 hours straight through from florida to chicago by herself.
she had no problems. she told me that she actually quite enjoyed it.
I think you should take someone with you if the car is old or you have a tendancy to fall asleep at the wheel.and I sure hope you will be back here with us soon?
I would say to leave later. U must not go alone. Be with friends or any partner while moving :)
Hey :-)…
Well I guess you know what I might say…..I would go it alone ……adventure! It’s a big transition too, you might have some good thinking time on your own.
I think spending 27 hours with someone else in a car could turn me homicidal
…that’s just me though…!
But I don’t know the area or how safe it is. Have you got breakdown cover for your car ?
Go for it, take care though xxxxx Make sure you let us know when you are home safe.
Wow..you’ll be like thelma without louise…or the other way round. I’d love to do a big road trip one day….!
Ok, so it looks like my friend is going after all. If for some reason she doesn’t I will take the journey by myself. I was all set to go on my own and even a little excited, but recently found out she is not going to Washington after all. I leave in the morning.
Good News: YeahYeahYeahYeahYeahWooooooohooooooooooo! I have a job interview in IL on Wednesday. It is at the district I want to work in and it is at an alternative school, which means I will work with the type of kids like like (the naughty ones). When I got the call I was so excited it felt like I already had the job. The district is also one of the highest paying in IL for teachers, so I may finally stop being so darn poor. :)
Thank you to all of you who gave advice and encouragement!!! All of you rock!

TJ is also from the Southside. He was born not far from where I spent my first nine years, but he wears a tradous blue hat! My new neighbors will mostly be fans of the Chicago baseball team who has not won a World Series is a zillion billion years.
Hello Max*AdiosMcCainland*,
I think that you should firstly listen to your heart, if your heart says to go with family or with another friend then do this, if it tells you to go on your own then do this.

Actually, I have about 20 traderous blue ones, and I am thinking of installing ivy on the side of my house. And to that, I can add only four words.
Best. Record. In. Baseball.
And you gotta give me a break on that one…I might not get to say it for another 120 years or so ;)[/quote]
Your right, your team is kicking a**. Just this morning my niece, who I am staying with for a few days, was trying to talk me into going to a Cubs game. Her and her boyfriend have a room dedicated to the cubs, so for at least a few day I can’t bash the cubs, or they might make me go live in my empty place.
I arrived safely, and although I did not make the journey alone, I did drive the whole way. I am sure I would of been fine had I gone it alone, but it was nice to have some one to help me with my dog who has an anxiety disorder. Plus, someone to keep me sane. I started to lose my mind somewhere in Oklahoma. :)

Candy Stores??? Latte Art??? Is this some *other* Chicago that I don’t know about? Can’t we just all put on mustaches, eat sausage, and watch Rex Grossman **** up another season?I’m just kidding…I’m actually a big supporter of Sexy Rexy. Cedric Benson, however, can kiss my grits.
I was strolling down Michigan Ave last night and I passed a certain store that once made your tummy ache just thinking about it. It is that store you are like a kid in a candy store (Apple). Actually I went by another one today in Palentine, IL. Not to mention I am on a beautiful Mac right now, but I will be back to my old laptop this weekend.
Summer is not a time to bash the Bears, plus you need to have faith they have all got their sh*t together for this season. Maybe now that Grossman has a few more years on him he won’t be such a head case.

Bravo!
My movers finally come tomorrow. Yesterday I had a interview with the top district in the area, one of the top in IL. I left not knowing if I had the job, which is unusually for me. The interview was good, but not great. It was suppose to be at 9:30, but it started at 10:30. I left thinking I had a 50/50 shot. It is for an alternative high school working with the type of students I specialize in. About an hour after the interview an old supervisor called me to tell me they called her. She said she thought I had the job, but they were worried about my size. I am only 5 feet and look more like an elementary teacher than a high school teacher that can handle kids with behavioral issues. I told them in the interview that my looks were deceiving and that I was tough, but I guess they needed confirmation. She told them how I handled tough gang kids who were mentally ill and apparently they believed her. She compared me to mighty mouse, lol. I was not suppose to get an answer one way or another until Tuesday, but only four hours after the interview I got the call with the job offer. I have accepted!!! Yeah. It pays $24,000 dollars more than my teaching job in Az did. I was shocked at how much it payed, but I can desperately use the money! Plus, it is exactly the job I wanted. It is a VERY tough district to get a job at. Anyways things seem to be working out well for me and I can’t wait to sleep in my own bed tomorrow! :) As always you guys Rock. Thanks for listening to me! :)

I am moving from Tucson, Az to Chicago, IL. I was planning on taking the 1700 mile drive to my new home with a good friend of mine, but I just found out her grandmother died. I am suppose to leave on Friday, but I can leave later if I need to. My question is: should I just go by myself or should I insist that a family member fly to Tucson to drive with me. I am very independent and I have a dog who will be with me, but 27 hours is a long drive. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
