I'’m waiting by the phone to hear if I got a new job or not..

Yesterday I went to a school and gave a try-out lesson, today the other candidate will have given his (or her, I don'’t know which), so they could call me now any minute. Waiting is horrible.. I keep telling myself that by tomorrow, I'’ll either know that I have a full-time job next september in my chosen profession, which is great for obvious reasons, or I know that I will get a little longer to adjust to my new carreer: Part of me is terrified of the thought of tripling the amount of students I have to know by name and the amount of classes to prepare and the amount of work to grade. I have given it in Gods hands, things usually work out for the better no matter what happens, but I still don'’t know exactly what to do with my time while waiting. Any suggestions?

Good luck sweetheart, I’m doing the same as you. Waiting is crap, my heart keeps jumping every time the phone rings. Trying hard to not chew my fingers.

Good luck for you too than.. Luckily I don’t get calls very often, so it’s unlikely anyone else will call me before they do.

Well, you could spend the time working on lesson plans. On the other hand, you could make a long weekend of it and go off to do something fun and relaxing. Got any roller coasters in the Netherlands? Once you’re out on vacation, good news makes it better and bad news is softened.

Anyway, good luck with the teaching job. And don’t get discouraged if you don’t get a call immediately, they’ve probably got to have a meeting or two before they can make an official decision.

I actually have some grading to do for one of the schools I currently teach at, so I couldn’t just go off and take a vacation. But I cannot really concentrate either.. There will be no long meetings, they saw three candidates out of twenty applications, then asked two of us to teach a trial class. It’s basicly down to which lesson the potential colleague liked better and since mine was first, I have no idea other than that she thanked me for an ‘inspirational lesson’.

A good teacher is an inspiration, she paid you a great compliment. Take that onboard and smile.

Didn’t get the job.. Oh well, that means a lot more free time next year and the opportunity of something even better coming up.

There’s no shortage in jobs in education here, so I’m not considering going abroad at all. I teach social studies, that’s kind of society-specific as well. I just applied for three other jobs, as well as considered applying for some non-educational jobs. Things will work out, it’s just that this job was in walking distance from my home and I would have loved that.. Thanks for the sympathy. Did you hear anything yourself, yet?

How did it go? (And what’s a M.D.?) Always good to be asked back for a second interview, even if you don’t get the job you know you did something right..
I also had an interview this morning, for another teaching job, about 40 minutes traveling from here. Don’t know when I’ll hear from this one, so I have no reason to be nervous either..
