Love help: I’m arrogant. - Help.com

I’m arrogant.

I know I’m arrogant to some extent. I love debating so I jst see things from my point of view.
I think it’s most with my family. Other ppl’s comments I take seriously but I dunt take my father’s opinions very seriously.

Keep in mind, though, my Dad’s a very arrogant man himself. Even his sisters said that.
From a young age I was used to just following Dad’s opinions but once I started college i started having opinions of my own and I think i kinda started to cherish that.
So whenever Dad and my opinions clash, we have a huge fight over it.

Is this rite? Keeping my opinion and jst standing still without trying to even think if the other is right? Then, how do u treat arrogance?
is there some sort of steps i need to take in my head before i speak?

well i think you should probably take a little more time to not be on the defense but standing up for yourself and what you love and believe in is an awesome trait! Just dont ruin relationships to prove a point.

I think that you both think that you are right and you want to convince each other to change your minds and that is very difficult and results in uncecessary fighting. Always keep in mind that a man convinced against his will is of the same opinion still. So you can’t convince anyone. The best way to approach situations is rather than trying to control someone which is the intention behind arrogance it to try and know what is true or makes sense and in order to do that you need to consider everyone’s point of view and then formulate your own. You need to be ok with people disagreeing with you. It does not mean that you have to change your opinion without being convinced yourself. If the person insists you let it go and walk away, but you never fight them for having an opinion.

Arrognace is a need to a point. However, you must keep yourself open minded to everything else. If you you stay on a one mind set track you will just be doing circles and create a false reality.

People will laugh at your arrogance beceause if you dont learn the truth and stick by whats false no one will take your word as truth or respect.

Prior to reading your post, I thought you were arrogant in the sense that you looked down on others. Maybe that’s it too, in the sense that you think your beliefs are superior to theirs.

But after reading your post, I found a similarity between you and I. I used to be arrogant like you in that I always thought my opinions and stance on issues were legitimate whereas others’ weren’t.

I guess college kind of fixed this for me. I was humbled through my experience because I sensed that I wasn’t as far-sighted nor had all the facts prior to me siding with an issue. I used to talk over people, even strangers, when discussing controversial issues. But I found out you get nowhere this way, and others resent you. I know that you can’t make friends with everyone you come across, nor will every person in this world like you, but I’d rather be tactful and let others view me as approachable rather than overbearing.

I DONT THINK YOU ARE ARROGANT

I dont think making you views know is any form of arrogance. Your owe it a duty to your father to respect him but you should always make your views known to him when ever you dont agree with him. It will be better to make your own decisions and make mistakes than to make mistakes with a decision you do not agree with just because you are trying to please someone.

i have the same problem.
my arrogance caused me to believe not exactly that i was better, but that i knew more and deserved more.

and i never repsonded to some emails thinking that they were “boring” ( because i know so much right?)

and then that person who sent me the email passed away.
i have soo much guilt.
all they did was basically say hi and i never wrote back.

and i need to learn from this.
