Day help: My daughter is 2 and has been sick for 3 days now. - Help.com

My daughter is 2 and has been sick for 3 days now.

One doctor gave her 400mlg of amoxicillin every 12 hours, stoped the fever(she was running about 103.) but now she is vomiting everything up.. its 10 times worse then before she started the meds, so i took her back to the doc, and he said that the medicine is doing it, not to give it to her, but she is still throwing everything up… I dont konw what to do, it seems like they are running me in circles.. i havent slept in about 3 days really, and shes been vomiting for 2. She keeps ntohing down..

anyone have any suggestions of what i can do to help her? Please let me know…

Try taking her to a different doctor maybe if that’s at all possible, no harm in getting a second opinion.Have you been bringing her to a local doctor or to a hospital? If you have just been using a local doctor try getting her to a hospital also might be a good idea.

The first time was a local doc, the second was a hospitial. How long do you wait to take her back to the ER for throwing up? 24hours….. ? 12hours? she eats, she drinks, it just comes back up really quickly.. about 15min.

To be honest I don’t have a clue so I’m not going to try to give any kind of advice like that in case it’s wrong.

Did the hospital or doctor give any advice? As in, did they expect any kind of reaction like this from her?

Well in my opinion you can never be too careful. While it is possible that it is just the virus or whatever running it’s course it may also be something more serious. Bringing her back to the hospital can’t cause any harm so I think you should bring her back if you feel there is a need for it.

AAAAHHHHHH POOR SWEETIE
I will pray for you daughter to get better.
OK, she must be very dehydrated. Go to a drug store and buy her some pedialyte and start giving it to her slowly slowly. http://pedialyte.com/
She needs to be hydrated fast. I am very surprised that your doctor did not recommend this when he prescribed the antibiotics. Why did he give her antibiotics? That is not the norm either, unless she has a severe infection.
What was her final diagnosis? If he did not tell you either, please call him and demand for him to tell you more in debt info. I use to be a nurse and somtimes doctors can be so vein and callus because they see us as cattle.

Please start her on that right away. I pray she will get better.
Love to you and you little angel,
LP4444

I meant: demand a more in depth diagnosis than the generic info he has given you.

While it sounds like good advice and all and that you seem to know what your talking about I still don’t thing it’s a good idea to be giving any form of medical advice on the site. Fair enough you were a nurse and all but unfortunately we do not know all the information about it so I don’t think it is a good idea. Best bet is to get her back to ER, that’s my opinion at least.

Sorry if that came out a bit more offensive or aggressive than I meant it to by the way LadyPhoenix, I hope you see where I am coming from though :)

She must have had Strep A…That is the mildest antibiotic but for some kids have bad side affects because of her hypersensative system…
Does she have diarrhea?
I cannot remember the age restriction but I think it’s ok there is a suppository called Promethazine . It is used for vomiting and nausea. It will also help her sleep as well. I suggest you call him and have him call it to a pharmacy for you right now.

It will take about 20 minutes but she will stop throwing up.

hey..iknowyou…Pedialyte is over the counter fluid that ANYBODY can buy and consume at ANYTIME for rehydration.
This site is for information purposes only. I think liblady is intelligent enough that she will confirm it with her doctor…that was a given thought process even though I did not mention it, but I consider it a given…

Dear Liblady: please TALK TO YOUR DOCTOR asap regarding this suppository…bug him about it.

I have two grown girls; i been through it all especially with one of them who had a serious life threatning illness for a long long time.

please keep us up to date.
Love,
LP4444

Lady Phoenix is correct. She NEEDS to stay hydrated. It doesn’t matter if she throws it up: if she does, give her more. It is possible, if she is not hydrated enough, for her to require an IV: something I’m sure you would like to avoid. A human dies of dehydration after 3 days without liquid. Try to feed her too, even if it’s just small things like crackers. Sometimes the best thing to settle a stomach is food.

Talk to your doctor, as if the other intellectuals on this site have not commanded it enough already. If worst comes to worst, call 911. I know this sounds a little drastic, but speaking as the daughter of an Firefighter/EMT (those guys in the ambulances), I can say that the paramedics would rather have a small problem then a huge one. Paramedics have been trained to identify problems on site, and can tell you whether your daughter’s in trouble or not. Also, as an E.R patient, she is likely to receive closer examination.

And yes, go to the hospital for throwing up. Things like food poisoning can induce throwing up. Your kid is 2, right? Even a super parent couldn’t regulate all the germs that 2-year-olds take in. Again, doctors would rather have a small problem then a large one. Go to the hospital. Throwing up for 12 hours certainly isn’t normal. The worst that could happen would be them telling you she is fine.

Good Luck. I hope she gets better.

as for a supository..ick.. i dont think its come to that just yet, she is drinking.. and shes a lill chunky

however i called the doc and he said if her temp goes over 103 then bring her right back. so other then medical advise, anyone have motherly stuff.. that i can do to make her more comfy until i can get the medical stuff back

thats a good idea. I think that she is taking more water then putting out. She drinks like crazy to begin with. She drinks at least a gallon of water a day .. alone.. so as long as her eyes dont get yellow or sunkun (thanks for that, i didnt know that one) i think she wil be fine, but if she turns to look even a LITTLE dehydrated ill get her in..

thank you so much

if anyone knows of any fun belly friendly foods for two year olds that might be helpful to, iknow that acids are bad, and bread is good.. but she just doesnt seem to want to eat anything other then macaroni, so i was thinking some vitiman gummys or something?

let me know your ideas on that…

The child needs special care. I would take her back to the hospital and let them give her intrveneous liquid because she will become dehydrated and thats not good. Also you need to be comforted in your mind that everything is being done for her.
