friends help: My husband lost his job, which was very high paying and we lived in a wonderful home, in a great neighborhood in a beautiful city. - Help.com

My husband lost his job, which was very high paying and we lived in a wonderful home, in a great neighborhood in a beautiful city.

I am 9 weeks pregnant and 90% of our friends and family live in Arizona. We are considering moving there and my husband will have to take a pay decrease and live in a somewhat hostile city with heavy sun and a poor sense of community. Help, what should we do?

Well if you cant afford the luxury to stay in your current neighborhood then go where you can afford. But if you can stay in the nice city it would be nice to raise your future child there.

Thats life. Sell all of your luxury items and build a little nest egg before the child is born. Then move to the new city and find a good place to live and start over. Takes a little effort but you can do it. Hope this helps :-)

Did you move to Arizona? I’m from there, Phoenix area. I live in Oregon now and REALLY miss Arizona’s dry, warm sunshine plus the 90% of my family that lives there.

Would you like being closer to family? Have you looked into a nearby city, perhaps the smaller cities Prescott (couple hours from phoenix) or payson (70 mins from phx). they both have low crime, much cooler weather. Or there’s Flagstaff -beautiful, unique little college city @ 7,000 feet elevation (lots of snow, perfect summers).

If your husband and you are both really happy where you at could you help out with making money until your husband can find a new job, hopefully one that makes similar money to his old one.

I’m sorry that happened to you, that must be really rough. I spent nearly 32 years in Arizona (born and raised) and decided I wanted a change so we moved to Oregon 3 years ago and it was the worst decision of my life. I’ve been miserable here, really miss my warm, dry sunshine and family. 3 of my grandparents are still alive and approaching 90 and I haven’t had $ to even go visit once. We are desperately applying for jobs to move back there, no luck yet.

Good luck!!
