life help: I’ve been thinking of moving from New York to San Diego next year. - Help.com

I’ve been thinking of moving from New York to San Diego next year.

I currently make 70k and rent alone is 2k per month! That’s not included all other cost of living in NYC and paying state taxes.

I’ve heard that San Diego is expensive, but I couldn’t possible imagine it can be more expensive then New York.

I have a couple of questions for those that live in San Diego.

1) From your experience, how is traffic in SD?
2) Are there any organic grocery stores- like Whole Foods etc?
3) Does it ever get very humid?
4) What’s the coldest it gets?
5) Is there a lot of crime?

Hi there, I live in San Diego and it is expensive but not more than New York. We live in Hillcrest, which is the gay area, and pay $1200 for a two-bedroom with parking; Whole Foods is a few blocks from us as are a load of great restaurants, bars and cool little shops.

San Diego is know as one of the most perfect cities for weather, I think the hottest it gets is in the high 80’s, and it’s not too humid, but in summer it’s more in the mid 70’s. We FREAK if it gets into the 50’s and there are breaking reports if it rains a little.

Crime depends on where you are but where we are is pretty safe, I often don’t lock my car and I’ve never got broken into or anything, I don’t even know anyone who’s ever been burgled or mugged, although of course it does happen and there are drugs and guns in the wrong neighborhoods.

The big downside for me though is there is not a ton going on if you like stuff like art and culture. I’m from London and I miss a lot of weird theatre stuff, but there is a ton of live music if you like that.

And of course the big upside is the beautiful location, ocean to one side, desert to the other, ski slopes a couple of hours drive. That’s good. Give me a shout out if you need any more info.

I live in NJ and I am also thinking of relocating to California, San Diego area. Have you gotten any information that has swayed your opinion one way or the other? Can you share some of what you’ve learned? I would be looking to move to San Diego by the end of the year, early next year. I will also be moving alone,so safety is a big concern.
