What are good self-motivation techniques?

I have serious problems making myself do things. Mainly going to college, keeping my room tidy, etc, but also I need to go to organize an appointment at a mental health place nearby. However I just can’t make myself do these things. The weird thing is, I have no problem motivating myself to draw all night, climb in and out of places, undertake large projects with friends etc.
It’s like I know what I should do with my time, but instead do other things. So how can I make myself do things in order of actual importance? I’ve tried listing them in order of importance and telling myself to do them in that order but it didn’t happen. I’ve tried leaving notes for myself telling me to do it. I’ve tried asking people to hassle me until I do it. etc. Any ideas?

Make a schedule and stick to it.
Leave time for fun time and goof off time. (i.e. internet) to help set an alarm clock for the duration for the task.

do things in little bits.

For example, dishes piling up in the sink put two dishes in the dishwasher or wash just two dishes and a pan. eventually they will get done. Bathroom. (i hate this one) clean it in parts. Get that after shower spray that stuff works. clean the sink one week then clean the floor the next. should take about five to ten minutes each.

etc., etc.,

I feel your pain! Here are a few things that have been useful to me, insted of listing things in order of importance try making a huge check list on a whiteboard or something, that way you can check or scribble off each thing you do as a visual reminder of your success. sometimes I watch T.V. shows or read stuff on the internet that show you how to organize. it gets me motivated enough, even if it’s just for the rest of the day to get something done. good luck!

Drink lots of coffee (or take speed) and stay up till you get everything done!
Actually don’t listen to me, I’m in the same situation. Don’t take speed!

I use the Nike phrase, after a while it becomes a good habit.’Just do it ‘What you need is self-discipline.just takes a little practice.Just try it a couple times and see how good it feels.another one is ‘Good intentions are nothing without action’.Its the only thing that works for me.

Still the same really. Tried a few more things but it’s the summer holidays soon anyway and I have a lot of time off college.

Maybe you both are used to getting the recognition from others most of the time? When we get it from others, its not as good as when we get it from ourselves. We get a whole different and better feeling of accomplishment when we are proud of ourselves. So its just a matter of making ourselves do it and giving ourselves credit, and healthy small rewards.

You need your daily dose of a href=”http://amolife.com/career/motivation-your-way-to-success.html”>self motivation /a>! But you need toset your goals at first - if you want to draw and you feel that it can make you REALLY Happy - then draw! But remeber - real happinessis in giving, making this world better, making other lives better… So at first you need to set your priorities, and then - organize! Write down what you need to do. Set a time - for work, for studying, for drawing , for friends - so you can feel how precious your time is. And don’t forget to keep yourself motivated daily - read books, sites, quotes…Anything!!!
Good luck!

Imagine you just got out of prison, after spending a couple years there.
You have been told what to do, when to do, and how to do it for the past year… now you have your freedom.
Does that help? Can you imagine?

Say to yourself.. When I have done this task then I can spend the evening …. whatever drawing, interneting(new word?!), seeing friends etc etc. Then you have a goal, a reason to work. But you have to stick to it!!

I find it hard to motivate myself to do work when a deadline is far away, but sent myself my own deadlines if have lots of work and then try to stick to them… it works pretty well.

To be honest, I have some of the same problems.. The first thing you have to do is realize that you have to take small steps, and make some short-term goals. The reason why small steps are good is because your brain is not afraid of small steps, its great for motivation, you go and do something you put yourself up to doing, and your motivation goes up. You become more of an optimist, just a stone at a time. College: Place a clock with a strong alarm in your room but not by your bed, you will have to stand up to get it and since your already up, just go to college :)
