Money help: My computer is infected with spyware. - Help.com

My computer is infected with spyware.

Does anybody know any effective spyware removers that you don’t have to pay for? I don’t have the money to cough up to buy one. The free ones I keep trying either don’t help, or won’t get rid of the infection unless I purchase the rest of it.

If your PC seems like its slowing down or having a hard time surfing the web or just doesn’t seem right.
You should go to http://download.com and get these programs.
AD-Aware: http://www.download.com/3120-20_4.htm…
Spybot search and destroy: http://www.download.com/Spybot-Search…
CCleaner: http://www.download.com/CCleaner/3000…
and and if you dont have an Antivirus program you can use
Avast: http://www.download.com/Avast-Home-Ed…
or AVG: http://www.download.com/AVG-Anti-Viru…
and for your firewall a good program is
Zone Alarm: http://www.download.com/ZoneAlarm-Fir…
Install these programs and run them regulary. This will keep your system clean and running properly. These programs are free and Download.com is a part of CNET (the site that your posting on right now). Hope this helps :-)

Ok, I’ve tried everything, and nothing will work unless I pay first.

Those programs that I listed are free. Do you keep getting a notice that your pc is infected and a popup showes up on the screen? If so You need to copy all of your documents that you want to save and burn them to a cd. Then you need to reinstall your os or use the restore feature. This virus can be removed if you know how if not you have to use the option that I suggested. Hope this helps :-)

I don’t have a notice or popup or anything, when I scan my computer with Spybot or any of those, it just shows that it’s infected. But when I click “remove threats,” they all ask for registration before they do anything.

They shouldn’t ask for anything. Try removing the viruses in safe mode. Reboot your pc and keep pressing F8 then when asked select safe mode then use the programs. If you can save a copy of the report from spy-bot and post it here or send me a shout with the information. Hope this helps :-)

Run a scan. Norton, AVG , Avast are free antivirus software. Ad-aware, Spybot, Ewido are free spyware removers. You can download free softwares at http://fixit.in/antivirus.html and http://fixit.in/spywareremover.html . You can also run a free registry scan using utilities from http://re7.info
