I think a friend of mine has depression.

He’s been like this for awhile, he keeps yelling at his gf… the weird thing is that she’s bipolar and has only told him and me this but he makes fun of her for it and calls her crazy..
He just left saying “I hate life” He’s got depression and its starting to scare me! What do I do?

Hmmm, I think it depends on how you think he would react if you talked about it with him. You say he yells at his girlfriend and makes fun of her for being bipolar, so, to me at least, it doesn’t sound like he’d respond very well. What do you think?

And are you sure it’s depression? I don’t know all the symptoms of depression, but he kind of sounds more aggressive than depressive. Did not mean for that to rhyme Dx

I think people who are depressed seem more apathetic and feel less able to function and fall into a rut for days or weeks at a time. They’re also fatigued and not interested in the things they used to be interested in.

I’m not trying to downplay your concern at all, and I think the best way to handle this is to be just be sincere and real about your concern for him. It’s just that lots of people throw that phrase around “I hate life” as a complaint for everything.

Talk to him. Try to narrow down what is bothering him. As far as the yelling at his girlfriend it sounds like he either doesn’t really love her or he is severely lashing out because he is so miserable. He needs to findout what is causinghim to do all this stuff.
