War!

Is it justified by the intentions of the one waging it?

For so long, I’ve held the belief that war is justified by the intentions of the nation waging it and the circumstances, but not anymore. Just curious to see how many here believe the rationality of war..

War is an inevitable fact of human exsistance. I feel that the outcome of war is always beneficial. Whether we take out a dictator or fight someone else’s war, it is a manditory thing in life. However the politics of how we got into a war is a personal opinion, and that is to be shared by those comfortable. I am a war veteran. I was told to do a job, so I did it. I do not have an open opinion on whether or not we should have been there or not, because that is wrong of me as a United States Soldier. I am proud to be an American. I however do possess the right to hold an opinion of whether or not America did the right thing. Anyways got off subject.

Justification is just an opinion. And that will differ with just about anyone you ask and the circumstances that led up to the war. It also may differ with your age of mentality.

It is not that easy. You of all people, should know it. With every bomb the army hurled, you would have thought “This could rip off a child’s limb”. I could understand that as a soldier, all you were expected to do was to obey and could not oppose your command. But, I’m surprised to hear that you found it in your heart to be beneficial.

Well, it depends directly upon the backing of which a war is called for. Such as, the situation in Bosnia, which if wasn’t borken up by the UN and other third party nations, would have resulted in an even larger number of genocide victims, so sometimes, if the reason is good, such as to save lives, then it is a just war. However, when an Afican warlord or general masscares his own countries people for being of different blood or religion, then that in my oppinion is an unjust war, brought upon through greed and hate, both of which are not good but evil. An unjust war is found on intentions to do evil, and a just war is founded with the intentions to do good.

But, What do you think of the countless children being killed everyday in war, even when the intentions are good. If you take Iraq as an example, the intention was good(hopefully). But the civilian death toll is staggering. I’m beginning to endorse CIA type assasinations to take out the one responsible instead of declaring war on a nation and inflicting pain on the innocents.
