Okay here is the deal:

My coworker - who is also a good friend of mine is leaving the company. Our new VP of Contract Manufacturing wants to know if I can do what I am doing now ( Project Manager for the department ) and what my coworker was doing ( Manager for the Operations side of the dept ).

Am I capable? Yes. The problem is - the VP of Operations ( who my coworker reports to ) will not want the two to mix. I need to know - what kind of a title would this position be? Any ideas on that? Also - what if I reported to the other VP? ( Which he suggested ) Would I create an instant enemy out of the Ops VP?

Help! This is a great opportunity for me.

I dont think you can stick the two together. Unfortunatly, if they were both just Manager, it probibly be Manager of Contract Manufacturing and Operations. I think.. Sorry cant help more!
