I am 56 years old, have worked all of my life and in October last year I was laid off and have not been able to find work.

Although I have over 25 years management experience, a college degree and 16 years experience in the mortgage/banking industry I cannot find a job. We will lose our home soon and have no where to go unless I can find work. I Have applied for many jobs but get the same answer, you are over qualified. I never thought when I left the Army after 20 years I would end up like this. I do not want charity but if you know where I can get a job, please reply.

Thank you,

Desperate

I read your post and thought that you might apply at Wal-Mart because they always work with you on the hours of availability.

Also when I find myself between jobs i’ll create my own maybe you could try creating your own business.

Having all that experience in banking /mortgage you could become a “loan Broker” search online and check it out.

Hope this helps.

Joe

I suppose it has to do with where you are living right now. f you are having a lot of trouble finding a job, then i would advise you to put your house up for sale before it gets foreclosed on. I also want to tell you about the Minnesota Job Bank website. if you go to yahoo and click on this, it will show you jobs in any county, along with other state counties as well. When it comes to banks, i know what you are talking about when they say thst you are over qualified. It pretty much means they dont want somebody who can move up fast in the company, because they don’t want to pay more then they have to. I agree with joe when he sais to try and go to Wal-Mart. The good thing about this company is that there are just as many people quitting as there are people being hired, which makes moving up a lot easier for someone who has good experience like you. and plus if you wok there, you get 10% off whatever you buy, hee hee.

My heart goes out to you. I have been there and done this one. It is very hard though to lose a job after 25 years. I know it is difficult. Try to look on the bright side of things. You still have a home, you still are healthy enough to look for work. Do not let the pressure get to you. Think of finding a job like selling a product. The more sales you make, the better potential you have of making a sell. It is all a matter of numbers. If you have to take a job at Walmart while still looking for that job that fits your requirements, then take the job. Something is better than nothing. Be faithful in little and God will make you faithful in much. This is a trial that only you and those close to you will have to suffer through. Seek all the help from unemployment, charities and the like. Seek government help. I am sure you have given to these in your past 25 years of faithful service. Now it is time others help you. Just remember, you will find that job you are looking for. Keep your eye on the price.
