computer help: I’m unable to launch Dell MediaDirect on my Dell Inspiron 1520 laptop, so I cannot watch DVDs. - Help.com

I’m unable to launch Dell MediaDirect on my Dell Inspiron 1520 laptop, so I cannot watch DVDs.

It works perfect when I have the computer off, and press the MediaDirect button. But it doesn’t work at all when I have the laptop on and running Windows XP. All I get is an error message in a Dell QuickSet box that says “Unable to launch Dell MediaDirect. Please install this software and try again.”

I’ve visited the Dell forum and haven’t had any success. All the suggestions that I find are to reinstall the software. However when doing that, it will format my hard drive and set up a partition. I don’t want to go through all of that, so any suggestions on what else I could try?

Have you tried calling Dell’s tech support?

That’s why you have 2 power buttons - 1 for Dell MediaDirect and 1 for Windows. Dell MediaDirect is not supposed to run in Windows.

I, however, am having the opposite problem: My Dell MediaDirect will only run in Windows. So I am having to wait doubly long to watch a DVD: I have to shut down Windows, press the Dell MediaDirect button, and wait for Windows to restart with Dell MediaDirect running in the taskbar.

Can anybody help me with that problem?
