girl help: Should I get a miles reward credit card? - Help.com

Should I get a miles reward credit card?

I know that I am going to be flying a lot in about year from now because of college interviews and the such. I want to earn miles now so that the financial burden will be less when the time comes. So I am not a flyer at all right now, but I will be in a year. I have excellent credit. Should I get one of these cards? If so, which one is best for my situation?

assume I already have credit cards and have never abused them and that I wouldn’t.

Hmm, guess a mile reward card would come in handy then.

American Express has a miles card too but I found with mine when I had one that there are fewer places that take AMEX than Visa or Mastercard - mind you that might be a good thing.

If you’re going to use it for everyday expenses why not shop around?

I know that capital one has been accused of being a predatory lender - that means that they grant too much credit to people who shouldn’t have such a high limit so that they can get them stuck in the credit cycle and make more money on interest.

I’d shop around if I were you and make sure that the card actually has a decent rewards amount - it might be that a cash back card actually makes more sense for you since you would be able to buy the lowest cost ticket on any airline and not have to wait for one that was allowed by your credit card company.

They are wonderful, as long as you pay them off each month… that way it is a win win situation… however, some of them have a yearly fee.. which is not so great.

Check them all out, and take the best one.

I had racked up 4 round trip tickets to anywhere in the US, thru Amex…. and decided to sell them on Ebay, instead of using them, and I got a lot of bids, and also got what I wanted for them. Plus meeting some very nice people to boot.

Go for it.. When you know how to stay in control of your money, and your spending, without going overboard, the sky is the limit.

Having excellant credit is awesome.. just don’t ever loose it.

Blessings…

Oh, and send us some greetings from those far away fab. places. :)
