I feel like life is pointless.
I’m only fifteen, but I feel like I am out of things worth living for. I have a comfortable group of friends, great grades in school, and a loving family yet I still seem to be “drifting.” I do a lot of research in science and math, (I’m a geek like that.) so I realize that in the end, we’re all doomed. Not just you and I, but all life. Everywhere. I am also barley clinging onto the foundation of religion I once had so that is a dead end goal-wise. I guess I’m just feeling like, “Why bother living? Everything is just going to be dead eventually.” Any advice?

“Better to have lived and lost than to have never lived at all” All right maybe that’s not the exact quote but still :)
We are all going to die eventually, but it is everything that happens from day to day that makes life worth living. I have had problems with similar thoughts in the past. I try not to think in such broad terms. You have a lot to look forward to. High scholl graduation, colege, career, meeting that specisal someone and posibly starting a family. Don;t let you depression ruin your life. try yo change you thought process to be more postive.
Better get used of feeling like that.
Sounds like you have a touch of depression. Maybe some counselling is on the menu?
I think life is pointless as well. THe only things that keep me going are World of Warcraft and Guild Wars (as seen in my avi). SO myabe try and get hooked on a video game or some music or sports or w/e. Thats all I got =D
the point of life is to have fun and take risk and still believe and have faith in god so u can be promised everlastiing life in heaven.
You just have to enjoy life!
A lot of things that make us happy seem pointless, but, if its making us happy, is it really pointless?
I felt like that too, and I have those same “geeky” tendancies..
But you sound like you need a hobby, or just anything to get your mind off of that..
Ah, I think the thought of the world ending is in everyone’s mind. But try putting that in the back of your mind instead of in the front. Look a little closer at certain things that happen everday and laugh at things you think are silly.
Dream big. Let your mind create and imagine things that are way off the charts of the laws of physics. Even if human kind can never create it, who cares? It’s your dream and you can always dream. Don’t take the freedom of thought for granted.
If everything will be dead eventually then take this time to enjoy life and do things you’ve never done or dreamed of doing before. Feel the limits of humankind and the human body.
Take a stop on the road of life and feel the support and love of your friends and family. If anything should fill an emptiness in someone it would certainly be love.
Hey thanks everyone. Just getting some feedback makes me feel that much better. Now to mentally prepare myself for, quite possibly, the worst weekend of the Summer. Wish me luck.

My friend, it is almost fate that you would post this tonight. My last post on here was entitled, “What is the meaning of life, according to you?”
It may be beneficial for you to read over some of the things people said.
I have sought after this idea, as with most thinking people, about what the meaning or purpose of it all is. Is there a creator? Do I matter in the big scheme of things?
And even if we don’t matter, or we do, what matters is what is right now and right here.
All we have in this life is love, the ability to love those around us and to be loved by them. In that love, our lives have purpose. For that fleeting moment, life has focus, we have purpose, and for that, for that life is worth living. If only we attain that for a moment, that moment is worth pursuing.
Love is everything.
You don’t seem like one who would talk about fate. Jut saying…
I’ve been starting to think this way as well. About love and everything. It seems to make more sense than anything else, but it’s weird because I don’t know why. The brain is a complex piece of machinery, I reckon.
Very true, I am not one who believes in fate, but rather probability. But saying to someone, “It seems that the law of probability has gone in my favor tonight with the corelation of our two topics…”, doesn’t seem to roll-off one’s tongue as easily. (Giggle)
I believe in rationalism. I believe in myself.
I believe in hope and belief… (I know that seems redundant.)
Put that on a T-shirt and sell it.
:)
Put that on a T-shirt and sell it.
That seems to be the modern-day catch phrase for,
“Put that in your pipe and smoke it!”
I often think that but becuase nobody else around me thinks about that i just end up forgetting the fact that everything will end.
I did hear a theory the other day though that within the time left we have of this universe, and if human kind were to survive long enough, there will be a point where technology is so advanced that there will be computers more powerrfull than the universe that could hold virtual copies of every life form to have ever existed… dont know how that works though…
noone knows and will know, no religion would change the fact that we were born not knowing about us and the world, we should not even bother to know because we wont ever-and maybe it was like that for a reason, since we are all in the same boat we should try to live life the best we could x
“We should not even bother to know because we won[’]t ever.” How can you know that? You can’t know whether or not we will ever know about life.
Has it occurred to you it may not be in the answer, the teleological end, but the pursuit itself, its’ perpetual function? For example, why is a tree a tree? It is a tree because it exists as that, and not as anything else. Part of our problem comes down to identity. Yes we are humans, but what kind of human are we? A tree is distinguished by deciduous or coniferous, spruce or pine, etc. We can similarly classify ourselves by our physical appearance, our age, language, beliefs, ideas, and other fairly static characteristics. What makes it difficult is where we place our identity. We, humans, place much of our identity in mutable, transforming characteristics; perception of identity. In other words, our consciousness is where we base our identity. Consciousness itself is an ever changing thing, that changes with awareness and new datum. So in order to understand life’s purpose, for us, maybe we should start by asking who are we?
I would say that in order to be objective, one must consider that the process itself is the purpose. For example, the purpose of a clock is to tell time. The gears within it act in cohorts to bring about the effect of a way to tell time. Similarly, our explorations of our selves may be the processes that determine our purpose of living. (CAUSA SUI)
Try Buddhism. It’s not as much a religion in the typical sense as much as it is a rational
1. Life is suffering
2. Suffering is caused by desire (to be happy, to find love…)
3. The way to end suffering is to end desire
Basically it comes down to being entirely passive and not caring for anything but… through this process you will find that you love everything.
