Is it part of life to have thoughts of dying?

I have a friend that confides in me that they keep having thoughts of dying. Claiming that they do not have thought of killing themself, but rather seeing themself die. Is this part of them being depressed, or is it something I should point them to professional help?

It doesn’t really sound dangerous. I imagine my own death on an hourly basis, and have since my childhood but I’m sort of the morbid type.

We all question our mortality sometimes. It’s when we question should we be living thats not normal.

I must have imagined hundreds of ways I can die by now in my life, death is a part of life and it is only natural that sometimes we think about it or imagine it happening.

It’s completely normal to think about death. If they were envisioning actually committing suicide I’d be a bit worried, but if they’re just thinking about death as a concept, it’s probably nothing major. You should perhaps ask them why they’re thinking about these things and whether there’s anything worrying them, and keep an eye on them, but I’d really not get anxious about it :)

Id almost be inclined to say , if you dont think about death , then theres something wrong with you.

Its normal, the only difference between those that have it lerking in the back of their minds all day, and those that dont is distraction. Maybe he/she doesn’t have enough to keep their mind busy, so they think about the one thing they know is promised, and true.

*Lurking, not lerking
