writing help: Nightmares really hurt. - Help.com

Nightmares really hurt.

Literally…I’ve had a knot in my stomach all day from the tension they are causing me.
It hurts a lot and I just want it to go away. The nightmares I’ve been getting are very disturbing…and not to mention the odd coincidences that happen after I wake up from the nightmare.

It started with the one about my dog dying. As soon as I woke up, I went outside and petted her. Everything was fine until my cousin from New Jersey texted me and told me that my favorite horse had died…

The next night, my dream was that my dad had cheated on my mom and they were getting a divorce. I was in the backyard, talking to my mom. My dad was behind her, breaking cement blocks for some reason. My mom was talking bad about him, like he wasn’t even there. He got so pissed off that he threw a block at her head. Her eyes bulged and blood went all over..I woke up crying. (Luckily, there was no coincidence after that dream.)

And finally, last night the nightmare was about my half-sister writing me a letter assuring me that she was okay, and not to worry about her. She was seeing two therapists to get out of her abusive fiancee’s clutches. Then I see her at the side of my house, and she’s getting beat up by her fiancee. The coincidence with this one was that I woke up to a phone call, and it was my half-sister calling!

Sorry for the longness of this, but I hope you can read it all, and I hope someone can help..

Hey erin. I don’t know exactly what to tell you except that I think you have a gift. And right now, it’s being clouded by awful things because you are so stressed. I have the same problem really. I have been having horrible nightmares about my ex and my friends… not all the time does something happen, but it’s because of the stress. Have you tried any stress reduction techniques? I mean beside your faith and praying? *I remember you’re devout to Jesus Christ* I mean something like yoga or swimming or anything like that? Write or read? Get a dream analysis book, they are a little hard to navigate, but once you get the hang of it, it seems to works well. I don’t know what else to say right now hun, but good luck.

hey, thanks for the reply. :)
about the faith and praying thing…that’s just kinda gone down the drain. I don’t know what happened, but it’s just not there. I will try what you suggested though. thank you again.

LOL, I know, I’m old… but I still remember what it is like to grow up. It’s not the easiest thing we have to go through, but think about this too, it does get harder sometimes. But right now, at this moment, you can do something about it, even it you start off small. But I do think that you have a gift and need to learn how to channel it properly. You never know, this might give you what you need.:D

Yeah, my cousin also told me it was a gift, but I don’t really want it…
I don’t like all this bad stuff. D:

You will want it if you learn how to channel it correctly. Trust me, I didn’t want it either, but it helps so much right now as an adult. When I was your age, I hated it, it drove me nearly insane. But I learned a lot about it and it got better. Sounds weird but it’s how I keep in touch with those close to me who are no longer here. And sometimes, others who are still physically here. The bad stuff will pass, but you have to let it. Just remember too that good comes with bad and bad comes with good. I have seen that something good ALWAYS comes out of something bad. You will too!

I get those sometimes too. Not sure what you can do about them, but maybe if you can find some more meaning behind them they’ll start to fade away.

nightmares suck. I have them whenever I sleep now. they arent creepy in a normal HOLY CRAP I’M SCARED! More like…Wtf…that makes no sense but its creepy. Nightnares are a part of life sadly. You’re dreams sound like they’re trying to tell you something or sending you messages. Are these things on your mind alot? Sometimes dreams are like that when we worry about soemthing too much. Um, I read once somewhere that sleeping during the day lessens nightmares (I dounbt it, but its worth a shot if you cant stand them) I’m sorry to hear about the horse. I know how that feels. Luckily your parents didnt actually do that, that would be weird, and your sister too.

wilkins- praying to my dog will actually do that? seriously? :O

heather- Yeah, I’m thinking about getting one of those dream-interpretation books that tmptrss reccommended…

Kanabi- No, they aren’t on my mind a lot, which was weird that I had nightmares about them. But because of the nightmares, I think about them a whole lot more than I used to!

what would you say if I told you that I enjoy nightmares? :)
I just got used to them, and they are now just a normal thing that happens every now and then when I sleep.

Hey I totally understand this crap. I’ve dealt with the same thing. It’s just your really worried about this girl and its probably your subconscious. Don’t think of it as predicting the future or anything cause it will only freak you out more. It’s not! It’ just what you are worried about. I’ve been through the exact same thing!

And hey, I really don’t mean this in a bad way at all but next time you want help, try to start your own post; some users don’t like when others ask for help on their posts. Just a heads up.

Sorry to butt in lol but i used a straw to itch my arm when i broke it. You might get in trouble with the doctor though (i had all red liney things scratched on my arms after he FORBADE me to do it lol)

And Erin, my friend Pad used to have day dreams, like snapshots of bad things happening. He started doing a lot of meditation, imagining white good light being around him. Dont let fear control you, see it as a special gift thats been given to u for a reason. :) hope that helps :)

Oh. This is interesting in deed. I suggest you go and get one of those dream books, so you can interpret the dreams, because sometimes they something different than what you see. You dreamed your dad cheated on your mom, then he hurt her. What you saw him do physically is what she may have felt like emotionally. Does that make sense. He hurt her either way it goes. You’ve got a gift/curse babe. I have it too. It’s crazy. But I don’t know. i guess you could pray them away. So what you have are nitghtmares/premonitions. It’s scarry huh? I know. But sometimes it’s fun. People can’t get over on you, ’cause you already know. Don’t just remember the bad dreams. Pay attention to the orther dreams you have, and then see what happens. I know it’s scary, but it can also be fun sometimes. I had a dream earlier this year, that my newborn niece had died, for no reason. Turns out it was a friend from work. Same age as my niece. Mother was the same complexion of my sister in law. Her baby died for no reason. Had a dream I would miscarry. Had a feeling I would too. So hey.. Don’t just pay attention to your dreams, pay attention to your feelings, or if something like a nagging feeling pops into your head out of the blue and you can’t shake it from your mind. Believe it. I hope you get better though. But try not to just focus on the nightmares. Pay attention to all feelings and dreams though

hey, i didn’t read all the posts, except i did notice someone saying you should buy a dreambook. dream interpretation books are complete waste of money.

i never have nightmares because i learned a technique to stop them. remember that in your dreams, you have almost unlimited power. just try and remember that, and do your best to lucid dream.

after learning to remember that, in my dreams nothing can harm me.

whoops, to be more specific, in my dreams i can

a) fight almost anything and win. if i don’t like something happening in a dream, i just fight whatever is the source of the distress.

b) even more powerful than fighting: occasionally there will be something i can’t fight, or a situation in which i wouldn’t want to fight, but is still causing me distress. i learned to just kind of teleport away. it feels like tuning a radio dial and the dream just fades away around me.

perhaps your mastery over the dream world will manifest differently, but thats what i learned to do.

Not everyone has dreams, but that doesn’t make them insane. And to norealemai, you totally misunderstood what she said. She said that her dreams basically come true. She doesn’t dream about monsters and stuff trying to get her. Her dreams are basically premonitions. In that sense, a dreambook would help her translate what some of those mean.
