What I Saw
This is a Fourth of July poem that I needed to resurrect for people to hear on here. I’m quite disturbed with the country I live in and the blindness so this is what I wrote. Maybe I could get some help, but not sure who can help. We all tell each other good things and encouragement but I still feel like not much gets accomplished.
A great many gather once each year
Laying on the grass and blankets
Chatting about their problems
A beer or two for good times
Children running happily around.
The show starts,
Color lights the sky,
Some cheer “freedom”,
Some “ooo” and “ahh”.
I saw a different show…
I saw as each work lit the sky,
Blossoming and exploding out,
A missile at the end of each stream,
Representing the lies and innocence.
Lies of a country for their war games,
Innocence for the bombed countries,
The people’s death cries of “stop the fighting”,
Children shaking, tremoring, bleeding.
I saw the corruption,
And people doing NOTHING about it!
10 Million share the belief at very least,
That war solves nothing.
10 Million gathered not wanting war.
It is my belief,
The people are needing, waiting,
For someone, one person whose strong enough,
To lead the people, to fight back war-
The freedom to kill…
Whose that one person going to be?
You? Me? Another president? Jesus?
The fact is,
We all have a voice,
We’re not using it,
Some are and politicians don’t respect it.
I’m not a religious man,
But can’t you see the Bush is burning?
These thoughts are attached to each firework.
While some ended with cheering,
I felt like crying.

I was invited to look at your post. It’s a big topic and I don’t have an answer, but will tell you how I feel and hope it helps. It’s a big world and freedom has a price. Our duty starts in our personal world and keeping a positive manner with the hope of helping a little, is best:) anybody can find fault..it’s the good or the resistance of depression that leads to a more pleasant day. I understand what you are saying, but cheering for freedom and is rights came at an enormous cost. Tears for those who paid the price is commendable, tears for not being close to perfect is destructive. Celebrate what we have and try not to think of issues beyond your control. Helping in your neighborhood will help a lot. Take care:)
I agree, 40 million are against war, 100 million. Yet we still bomb. There IS no freedom. No one threatened our freedom. Some people (unknown) attacked us. We didn’t look for them at all. We went on a rampage, in spite of the fact that when the mighty giant Amerika was struck, millions around the world had sympathy for us but begged us not to lash out. But we did. Because we had a plan already. It is tragic. There was a chance right then, for a few days, that the world could REALLY have changed, not the way our leaders later said it had forever, but changed for the good. For a moment we all realized we were brothers. But our leaders didn’t want that. They wanted to dominate. And now they do. And our Constitution is a joke. And our “freedoms” have been given away, by us. (And by the way, no one “hated us for our freedoms.” We’ve been taken over by con-men, and those who see it are afraid and immobilized. But the pendulum will swing, eventually. But when, and after how much more?
May god once again,——-and may god bless america:)!!!!!!
We the people, need to take charge of our government. The system works, but only if we actively participate. How many of you know who represents you and how to contact them? When was the last time your elected representives heard from you? Numbers count. If you join with other like-minded people, you can have a big impact in your situation. Complaining to the wind won’t get the job done. You must learn how to take charge and do that. Learn how the system works and become part of it. Americans have died so that you have that right. What have you done for your country lately?

Definitely food for thought!
Food for action!

Congratulations, florie. You know how to get things done. Now, let’s issue a challenge: How fast can all of you name your representative?
Issa…I love his name and I even met him, once.
I used to be in the Military unfortunately…until I realized some unfortunate stuff. Anyway, it’s still a step more than others have done. I have written congress. Doesn’t do anything much. I believe the truth will always lie in the numbers as has been stated earlier. I’ve seen too much, the fact is, nothing still gets done. I agree with what was said in an earlier post on this thread: for one brief moment we had the chance to come together and our con of a government wanted nothing to do with peace. Just conquer and divide. Not everyone in the military wants that, but there are too many who just don’t care and it’s sad. So while some say what have you done? I return the question, what have you?
We had the chance, and we still have the chance, but that was a moment where we could have made a great leap
florie, yeah, better put.

nothing matters anyway. so who cares about politics? we are all going to work till we are 80 or 90, pay taxes until then for things we don’t even know about. then we will die. and will the government be there to give their condolences to our families? no. the gov. does not give a **** about us. And I really don’t give a **** about them.
I like that. Maybe the politicians of our world should read this poem and give them a dose of reality.
For my country, my children, my grandchildren, and yours, I have remained faithful to the ideals set forth in the Constitution. I refuse to give up on the form of government that provided the freedom I have enjoyed over my lifetime. Are you so discouraged by recent mistakes that you are willing to throw up your hands and give up? Have you accepted defeat rather than to accept the challenges of freedom? It really is up to each individual to decide just how much they will invest in their future. ***There is a choice*** In many countries, there is no choice. How much education you receive, your occupation, where you live, how many children you may have, as well as what you may say, are decided for you. I choose freedom and I promise to participate in my government. What do you choose?
Participate in a government that is completely corrupt? Not for me anymore. I vote for mutiny and the establishment of a new government that takes us back to the roots of what this U.S nation was founded on. I read online that all across the nation this year for the 4th was upset to the point where it’s firework shows weren’t as good because what the government is doing. Change the government and I wonder what kinda fireworks shows will happen then!
You know what? I agree with you. The point of being involved is to be in a position to make those changes. The great thing about our government is that we can completely change its course when we feel that we need to do so. So, what do you propose as the platform for our new direction. I am for change. How should we do it?
Just want to say thank you for your service to our Great Country inside………I hope to have more time later to leave a reply……Thank You!
Change takes numbers, change takes a common focus. Some agree, some don’t. That’s the problem, not all agree. Just because a few see what’s going on, doesn’t mean that all do. Many are blind, many bring what’s happening into focus. I guess what depends is what role you want to take. Do you want to be a leader? Or would you prefer to follow?

I think EVERYTHING matters. :)

There is a problem with electronic voting though.
I realize this is not the place to argue or bicker so Im not going to. But i don’t think it is right to provoke or belittle someone’s opinion on this site. We are all here because we are looking for something more, not to be told our feelings/thoughts/opinions are wrong. If that is what you are here to do so you can make yourself feel big, you are so in the wrong place. So with saying that……. sit and spin florie.
About electronic voting…I have been voting by absentee ballot for many years. My ballot arrives in the mail. I fill in the circles with ink. I take the ballot to the polling place on election day and turn it in. No need to use the machines. Is this a better way to vote?

If our opinions are supposed to matter, than why did you attack? That makes you a hypocrit in the process. This is exactly why some people give up. Such a lack of communication and understanding. I feel sorry for you.
who attackéd?! who belittled? I can’t keep track! Gosh a’mighty!
Okay, back to the subject. I went back to the beginning and read Max’s reply. Max made a good point. Perhaps we should start to make changes at the local level, where we can see the results of our efforts. The other night, I attended a community planning group meeting. Locally important issues were decided. The committee members were listening to every speaker and discussed the proposals in front of all attendees. I must say, I felt impowered. At the end of this month I will attend a county board of supervisors meeting. Baby steps…I know. At least it is another approach to forcing change in our government.
Local communities are one thing that is always a work in progress. What bothers me is when it’s time to take it to the next level. There seems to be a major block of power communication up.
At the board of supervisors meeting, I will meet the county supervisor. He has the ear of the state assembly representative. Do you think that leadership at the state level wishes to be elected to a second term?
