Anyone know what a busted or ruptured eardrum feels like?

My parents are telling me i probably just have swimmers ear ( i havnt been in a pool since weds) . im not sure whats up with my ear but heres what happened..

Last night around 8pm i had just cleaned out my ears because earlier that day i went to the doctors because my left ear was hurting and i knew i had strep, the doc said my ear looked fine and that it was just wax that was making my ear hurt i went home and cleaned it out and cleaned out my right one while i was at it. then about a half hour later something was tickling the inside of my ear so i went to scratch it and thats when the pain came on. it was INTENSE. It felt like someone stabbed me in my ear and twisted the blade it hurt so bad.. it went on for 2 hours then my dad finally after hearing me cry and being in mad pain for that long he found my prescription ibpro. pain killers that i take for my headaches for me. i took one of those and and after about an hour it finally kicked in, i had a heating pad on my ear too it helped with it i think also. i then went to bed i wasnt feeling the best but i was feeling better i thought if i got to sleep before the pain came on again i could catch a few hours of sleep. I woke up this morning at 3am. the pain was intense again. I took some more pain killer and got my heating pad all set up but this time it didnt go away fast, it wasnt as bad as the first time but it was uncomfortable and hurt like someone was stepping on my ear with spikes on. All i can hear is ringing and i can sorta hear people through it but everyone sounds like robots.

Sounds like you’ve poked too far!! lol.

I spent the first 10years of my lovely life having 8 operations because i had ruptured/perferated eardrums.

When you have busted your eardrum you are more or less completely deaf. All the time. Its not on and off.

You are also more prone to ear infections and busted eardrums are diagnosed after long term sympoms (6months-2years).

It should be fine after a day or two hun. If its not get back to your doctor and you might need some eardrops or something. Next time use eardrops from the chemist…don’t clean them out using any objects next time!

I think you should ask to see the doctor again. It could be that you now have an infection which may need some antibiotics. That can make the whole area seem hot or numb. Ear infections are very common after throat and sinus problems as the whole lot are connected. Sometimes an infection gets missed in its early stages, so the doctor may not have been able to identify it when he first examined you.

Or it could be that you damaged the ear canal in poking around or have somehow lodged some ear-wax where it shouldn’t be.

It’s best to get someone to check it out. Usually these things sort themselves out in a day or two, but sometimes they need a helping hand to heal.

Good luck.

Oh.. and don’t every poke anything in your ear! Not even a cotton bud!

Could be nerve damage? Still its pretty iffy. I doubt its even that. Prob an infection.

Ok I am going to tell my story. I had swimmers ear about 3 weeks ago and I took the swimmer’s ear medication. It finally went away and then my sinuses started acting up and I go an ear infection. I took some antibiotics prescribed by my doctor. It was gone for a bout a week and now it is back worse than ever. It was throbbing and now I can’t hear out if it completely. I feel asleep on it and when I woke up my ear was all wet. So I lightly put a cotton swab in my ear and softly dabbed the inside of my ear and it was all gross and yucky. Now it feels like there is tons of water sitting right there and wont come out but it isn’t water because I have kept my ear dry all week. Even in the shower. And now I am reading all this stuff about busted ear drums and stuff and I am kinda scared. I am still taking those antibiotics and it kinda helped. But again it still hurts like crazy and throbbing. HELP!
